  • The Delaware City refinery, with a capacity of about 182,200 barrels per calendar day, is one of two coking refineries on the East Coast.
  • In 2015, 63% of the petroleum consumed in Delaware was used by the transportation sector, primarily as motor gasoline.
  • In 2016, Delaware generated 89% of its electricity from natural gas, up 7% from what it had been two years before, whereas generation from coal fell to 5.5%, less than half of what it had been two years before.
  • Delaware has substantial wind energy resources along its Atlantic Ocean coastline, where a wind farm with up to 600 megawatts of capacity is being planned.
  • Delaware's renewable portfolio standard requires retail electricity suppliers to generate 25% of the electricity sold in the state from renewable energy resources, with at least 3.5% from solar photovoltaics, by mid-2026.
