Overview

This report includes summary data for the photovoltaic industry from annual and monthly respondents. Data include manufacturing, imports, and exports of modules in the United States and its territories. Summary data include volumes in peak kilowatts and average prices. Where possible, imports and exports are listed by country, and shipments to the United States are listed by state.

Fewer companies now report on the EIA-63B survey because of company consolidation and changes to strategic planning of companies in the U.S. solar photovoltaic (PV) industry. As a result of fewer survey respondents, the data tables in the 2017 report are less detailed than in past reports to protect the confidentiality of the individual company-level data. As a result of this protection, annual and monthly data are not published in some tables. Data can no longer be published for the specific types of PV cells and modules, or by region.

Table changes:

  • Table 1. Not published for 2017.
  • Table 2. Unchanged, includes data from annual and monthly respondents.
  • Table 3. Unchanged, includes data from annual and monthly respondents.
  • Table 4. Unchanged, includes data from annual and monthly respondents.
  • Table 5. Not published for 2016.
  • Table 6. U.S. Shipments and Sales to U.S. OEM for resale have been consolidated. Inventory data and Total Available for Shipments are not published because of poor data quality. Individual data for crystalline silicon, thin film, and concentrator types of modules cannot be published. The total for all types of PV modules is provided.
  • Table 7. Information in the Table 7 covering imports has been consolidated into five categories: China, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, and All Others and Unknown. All Others and Unknown includes data from annual and monthly respondents. Country-specific data are from monthly respondents only. Individual data for crystalline silicon, thin film, and concentrator types of modules cannot be published. The total for all types of PV modules is provided.
  • Table 8. Exports have been consolidated to the continent level, rather than to the country level, except for exports to Canada and Mexico. All Others and Unknown includes data from annual and monthly respondents. Country-specific data are from monthly respondents only. Individual data for crystalline silicon, thin film, and concentrator types of modules cannot be published. The total for all types of PV modules is provided.
  • Table 9. State data collected from monthly respondents only. Individual data for crystalline silicon, thin film, and concentrator types of modules cannot be published. The total for all types of PV modules is shown.
