Iraq Country Analysis Brief

Apr 2, 2013
Iraq has the fifth largest proven crude oil reserves in the world, and it passed Iran as the second largest producer of crude oil in OPEC at the end of 2012. However, increases in oil production still lag behind ambitious targets because of infrastructure constraints and political disputes. Development of other fuels lags the oil sector. Most Iraqi natural gas production is flared, with the result that Iraq was the fourth largest natural gas flaring country in the world in 2010. Iraq is taking steps to reduce flaring in order to utilize its natural gas resources for re-injection to increase oil recovery, as well as for power generation. After years of power shortages, Iraqi efforts to increase generating capacity are moving forward. Iraq plans to triple generating capacity to 27 gigawatts by the end of 2015.

Quarterly Coal Distribution Report - Fourth Quarter 2012

Apr 2, 2013
Provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data for October – December 2012, excluding waste coal and imports, by coal origin, coal destination, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly coal distribution data for all years are preliminary and will be superseded by the release of the corresponding “Annual Coal Distribution Report.”

Petroleum Marketing Monthly

Apr 1, 2013
All data covering sales of finished petroleum products through December 2012 are now final and 2012 annual averages are presented in Tables 2 through 17. Additionally, state motor fuel tax rates for gasoline and diesel fuel in effect as of January 1, 2013 are available in Table EN1. Preliminary January 2013 data show crude oil prices were generally on the rise in the United States, as were prices for most finished products. Prime Supplier data show differing month-on-month trends in U.S. consumption of gasoline and diesel fuel.

Quarterly Coal Report, October-December 2012

Mar 29, 2013
Provides detailed quarterly coal data for October–December 2012. U.S. coal production during fourth quarter 2012 totaled 249.6 million short tons. This was 3.6% lower than the previous quarter and 11.8% lower than the fourth quarter 2011. Production in the Western Region, which represented 54.7% of total U.S. production, dropped to 136.7 million short tons from 143.4 million short tons in third quarter 2012. This report now includes summary statistics for coal refining plants. All data for 2011 and prior years are final. All data for 2012 are preliminary.

Natural Gas Monthly

Mar 29, 2013
The March 2013 Natural Gas Monthly, featuring data for January 2013, has been released. • January’s total consumption of 2,861 billion cubic feet (Bcf) increased by 4.0 percent over January 2012, with colder temperatures in January 2013 than in January 2012. January net storage withdrawals of 722 Bcf were significantly higher than January 2012, also reflecting colder temperatures. • Two new data elements, Field Count and Total Working Gas Capacity, have been added to Table 13, displaying those data monthly, rather than annually. • Beginning with this issue, Wellhead Price estimates have been discontinued as of January 2013.

Iran Country Analysis Brief

Mar 28, 2013
Iran ranks among the world’s top four holders of both proven oil and natural gas reserves. In 2012, Iran saw unprecedented drops in its oil exports as sanctions by the United States and European Union were tightened, targeting Iranian oil export revenues. Preliminary data show that Iran ranked fifth in terms of crude oil and condensate exports, which was in contrast to its third position only two years ago.

2010 Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey (MECS) data

Mar 19, 2013
Total energy consumption in the manufacturing sector decreased by 17 percent from 2002 to 2010, according to data released today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Manufacturing gross output decreased by only 3 percent over the same period. Taken together, these data indicate a significant decline in the amount of energy used per unit of gross manufacturing output. The significant decline in energy intensity reflects both improvements in energy efficiency and changes in the manufacturing output mix. Consumption of every fuel used for manufacturing declined over this period.

Northwest U.S. natural gas prices remain historically low in 2025 ›

Monthly average natural gas spot prices in the northwestern United States reached historic lows in 2025, as ample supply from Canada coincided with subdued regional demand for natural gas-fired electricity. At Northwest Sumas, a key pricing hub for natural gas in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, the daily spot price averaged $1.59 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) in 2025 through August and reached its lowest ever monthly average price of $0.56/MMBtu in June, according to data from Natural Gas Intelligence. The monthly average price for the first eight months of this year is the lowest for this period of any year since at least 1999, and it is about 17% lower than in this same period in 2024. More
