March natural gas production in the Lower-48 States showed a recovery from the weather-induced drop that occurred during February. An overall gain of 2.49 billion cubic feet per day (Bcfd), or 3.8%, more than offset the previous decline, and Lower-48 production is at a five-year high. All areas in the Lower-48 posted increases except the Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico, which fell slightly. Texas contributed the largest gain at 1.23 Bcfd (6.1%). New Mexico increased 0.35 Bcfd (10.4%).

Note: Data are collected for the following areas: Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, and Other States. The Other States include all remaining states except Alaska, and includes other Federal Offshore (i.e., California) production not specifically asked for in the other six areas.

Natural gas well freeze-offs early in February contributed to a decrease in gross natural gas production in the Lower-48 States. Gross production in the Lower-48 States decreased by 1.27 Bcfd (1.9%) from the January level. Cold weather in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Wyoming drove the aggregated decrease, with average declines for these States totaling 1.39 Bcfd.
