In February, Lower 48 States production increased 1.3 percent or 0.92 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Other States had the largest volume increase at 2.1 percent or 0.52 Bcf/d as new wells were brought online in the Marcellus and Bakken Shales. Texas gained 1.4 percent or 0.30 Bcf/d as new wells came online in the Eagle Ford Shale. New Mexico also contributed with a 6.8 percent or 0.22 Bcf/d increase as warmer weather returned. The Gulf of Mexico and Louisiana reported decreases of 2.0 percent or 0.08 Bcf/d and 1.0 percent or 0.07 Bcf/d respectively, as repairs and well maintenance required shut-ins.

Note: Data presented in the table are monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on the EIA-914 survey. In 2011, data are from the EIA Natural Gas Annual. Gross withdrawals are converted to marketed natural gas production which is reported on the EIA website in the Natural Gas Data Tables, and in the Natural Gas Monthly and Natural Gas Annual reports. Marketed production is calculated by subtracting gas used for repressuring, quantities vented and flared, and nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating or processing operations from gross withdrawals.
