In April, production in the Lower 48 States increased by 1.3 percent or 0.97 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Texas had the largest volumetric increase at 3.8 percent or 0.86 Bcf/d primarily because of new wells coming online. The Federal Gulf of Mexico and Oklahoma also reported a gain of 4.9 percent or 0.16 Bcf/d and 3.1 percent or 0.19 Bcf/d respectively, mainly because of completed maintenance and new wells. Wyoming had a decline of 2.7 percent or 0.15 Bcf/d primarily because of a gas plant explosion and shutting-in wells in the Powder River Basin. Other States also had a decrease of 0.5 percent or 0.15 Bcf/d mainly as a result of maintenance and equipment issues.

Note: Data presented in the table are monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on the EIA-914 survey. In 2012, data are from the EIA Natural Gas Annual. Gross withdrawals are converted to marketed natural gas production which is reported on the EIA website in the Natural Gas Data Tables, and in the Natural Gas Monthly and Natural Gas Annual reports. Marketed production is calculated from gross withdrawals by subtracting gas used for repressuring, quantities vented and flared, and nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating or processing operations.
