Export quantities affect calculated demand measured as product supplied and adjustment quantities in the PSM. The U.S. Census Bureau is the usual source of export data in the PSM, but Census export data for November 2018 were unavailable at the time of PSM release due to a lapse in federal funding at the Census Bureau. The new planned release date of Census export data for November 2018 is February 6, 2019. EIA plans to republish PSM data for November 2018, including Census export data, together with PSM data for December 2018 that are scheduled for release on February 28, 2019.

How has U.S. energy use changed since 1776? ›

In 2024, the United States consumed about 94 quadrillion British thermal units (quads) of energy, a 1% increase from 2023, according to our Monthly Energy Review. Fossil fuels—petroleum, natural gas, and coal—accounted for 82% of total U.S. energy consumption in 2024. Nonfossil fuel energy—from renewables and nuclear energy—accounted for the other 18%. Petroleum remained the most-consumed fuel in the United States, as it has been for the past 75 years, and nuclear energy consumption exceeded coal consumption for the first time ever. More
