Are the prices EIA publishes adjusted for inflation?
The prices we publish on our website are generally nominal prices, or prices that we have not adjusted for inflation. In some cases, we publish inflation-adjusted prices, which are called real prices. Unless otherwise noted, our published prices are nominal prices.
We have a Real Prices Viewer that provides average annual, monthly, and quarterly real prices for imported crude oil, retail regular-grade gasoline, retail diesel fuel, retail heating oil, residential electricity, and residential natural gas. The Price series drop-down field of the Real Prices Viewer will sort for a variety of fuels and electricity.
