What's New for the Electric Power Annual 2021
The Electric Power Annual 2021 (EPA2021) report is now available with final data through 2021. The EPA2021 presents 11 years (2011–21) of national-level data on electricity generating capacity, electricity generation, and useful thermal output, fuel receipts, consumption, and emissions.
The EPA2021 indicates:
- A 2.5% increase in utility-scale electric power generation from 2020 to 2021
- A 2.4% increase in retail sales from 2020 to 2021
- A 3.9% increase in the average residential retail price of electricity from 2020 to 2021
- 43,442 megawatts (MW) of capacity were added from new generators in 2021
- 14,953 MW of capacity was dropped due to retirements in 2021
- The number of operating power plants among all energy sources increased by 855 from 2020 to 2021
