Aug 1, 2012
Report released showing U.S. proved crude oil and natural gas reserves achieved record annual volumetric increases in 2010. Crude oil proved reserves increased by 13 percent, the highest volume of proved reserves since 1991. Natural gas proved reserves increased by 12 percent to 300 trillion cubic feet for the first time.

Natural Gas Monthly

Jul 31, 2012
The July Natural Gas Monthly, featuring data for May 2012, has been released. Total consumption of natural gas for May 2012, 1,850 Billion cubic feet (Bcf), set a new record for May. This is an increase of 11 percent over the previous May record set in 2011. Deliveries of natural gas to the electric power sector of 819 Bcf drove the trend, reflecting continued displacement of coal with natural gas. Dry production for May stayed relatively stable at 2,028 Bcf, or 65.4 Bcf per day.

Monthly Natural Gas Gross Production Report

EIA Includes Biodiesel Production in Distillate Fuel Oil Demand Calculation
U.S. and regional petroleum supply and disposition balances reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) in the Petroleum Supply Monthly (PSM) included biodiesel production data for the first time in May 2012. In addition, previously published PSM data for January-April 2012 were revised to include biodiesel production. Similar revisions will be reported for 2011 when the Petroleum Supply Annual is released at the end of August 2012. Biodiesel production data in the PSM allow EIA to more completely account for biodiesel when calculating demand (measured as product supplied) for distillate fuel oil. Biodiesel production and other biodiesel data are included on the line called "Renewable Fuels Except Fuel Ethanol" in PSM supply and disposition tables. See Appendix B "Detailed Statistics Explanatory Notes" for additional information and details.

Northwest U.S. natural gas prices remain historically low in 2025 ›

Monthly average natural gas spot prices in the northwestern United States reached historic lows in 2025, as ample supply from Canada coincided with subdued regional demand for natural gas-fired electricity. At Northwest Sumas, a key pricing hub for natural gas in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, the daily spot price averaged $1.59 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) in 2025 through August and reached its lowest ever monthly average price of $0.56/MMBtu in June, according to data from Natural Gas Intelligence. The monthly average price for the first eight months of this year is the lowest for this period of any year since at least 1999, and it is about 17% lower than in this same period in 2024. More
