Libya is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, the holder of Africa’s largest proven oil reserves, and an important exporter of oil and natural gas. Libya’s oil production has begun to resurge since the overthrow of the Qadhafi regime.

Natural Gas Monthly

Jun 29, 2012
The June Natural Gas Monthly featuring data for April 2012 has been released. Despite the end of a mild winter contributing to record-low deliveries of 284 Billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas to residential consumers, total consumption of natural gas for April 2012 was a record high for April, 1,944 Bcf. Gains in demand for gas for power due to coal displacement brought deliveries to the electric power sector to a record high for April with 724 Bcf, a gain of 6.5 percent from March 2012. The records for natural gas residential consumption go back to 1973 while the records for electric power consumption and total consumption date back to January 2001.

Short-Term Energy Outlook - Market Prices and Uncertainty Report

Jun 12, 2012
Crude oil futures prices decreased in the month of May with both Brent and WTI currently more than 20 percent below their year to date 2012 peaks. Brent settled at $99.93 per barrel and WTI settled at $84.82 per barrel on June 7 (Figure 1). The Brent front month contract fell below $100 per barrel on June 1 for the first time since October 2011. June 1 was only the second trading day that the front Brent month contract settled below $100 since February of 2011.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Jun 12, 2012
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil spot prices averaged more than $100 per barrel over the first 4 months of 2012. The WTI spot price then fell from $106 per barrel on May 1 to $83 per barrel on June 1, reflecting market concerns about world economic and oil demand growth. EIA projects the price of WTI crude oil to average about $95 per barrel over the second half of 2012 and the U.S. refiner acquisition cost of crude (RAC) to average $100 per barrel, both almost $11 per barrel lower than last month’s Outlook.

What is the status of the U.S. nuclear industry?

Jun 11, 2012
There are currently 104 operable commercial nuclear reactors at 65 nuclear power plants. Since 1990, the share of the nation's total electricity supply provided by nuclear power generation has averaged about 20%, with increases in nuclear generation that have roughly tracked the growth in total electricity output. Partly in response to incentives provided by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, including new construction loan guarantees for new nuclear power plants, EIA expects nuclear power output to grow, although at a rate about half that of total electricity generation.

Onshore crude oil production on federal lands has increased in recent years ›

Crude oil production from onshore federal lands has increased in recent years as a result of significant growth in drilling activity and operations. According to data collected by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Natural Resources Revenue, onshore crude oil production from federal lands reached 1.7 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2024, a record high. Most of this growth was in New Mexico from crude oil produced from federal lands in the Permian Basin. More
