The Fuel Oil and Kerosene Sales 2012 report provides information, illustrations and State-level statistical data on end-use sales of kerosene; No.1, No. 2, and No. 4 distillate fuel oil; and residual fuel oil. State-level kerosene sales include volumes for residential, commercial, industrial, farm, and all other uses. State-level distillate sales include volumes for residential, commercial, industrial, oil company, railroad, vessel bunkering, military, electric utility, farm, on-highway, off-highway construction, and other uses. State-level residual fuel sales include volumes for commercial, industrial, oil company, vessel bunkering, military, electric utility, and other uses.

North Sea Brent and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) front month futures contracts continued their recent decline in October and the first week of November as a larger-than-normal seasonal decrease in global refinery runs from August through October lessened demand for crude oil. The Brent contract settled at $103.46 per barrel on November 7, a decline of $4.48 per barrel compared to October 1.

The weekly U.S. average regular gasoline retail price has fallen by more than 40 cents per gallon since the beginning of September. EIA's forecast for the regular gasoline retail price averages $3.24 per gallon in the fourth quarter of 2013, $0.10 per gallon less than forecast in last month's STEO. The annual average regular gasoline retail price, which was $3.63 per gallon in 2012, is expected to average $3.50 per gallon in 2013 and $3.39 per gallon in 2014.
Drilling Productivity Report

EIA’s second Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) has been released. The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for six key fields.

In this edition of the Petroleum Marketing Monthly, preliminary August 2013 data show prices for crude oil and No. 2 distillates continued to rise, while refiner prices for gasoline declined at both the retail and wholesale levels. Prime Supplier data show both gasoline and ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel consumption increased, while consumption of other distillates experienced modest increases.

Beginning with this edition of the Natural Gas Monthly, Tables 4 and 5 now show LNG imports and exports data differentiated by method of shipment, either by vessel or by truck. Compressed natural gas is also shown separately. Gas that is re-exported (defined as shipments of LNG to foreign countries that were previously imported, offloaded into above-ground LNG storage tanks, and then subsequently reloaded onto tankers for delivery to other countries) is also shown in its own sub-category beginning this month.

With total liquids production estimated at 1.64 million barrels per day (bbl/d) in 2013, Kazakhstan is a major producer, but its continued growth in liquids production will depend on the development of its giant Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan fields as well as expansion of the oil export infrastructure. The Kashagan field, the largest known oil field outside the Middle East and the fifth largest in the world in terms of reserves, reported first production on September 11, 2013, eight years after the original scheduled startup date.

These data measure primary petroleum product deliveries into the States where they are locally marketed and consumed.

Data in the October 2013 EPM are for August 2013, during which net generation in the United States fell 3.0 percent from the August 2012 level. Consumption of coal for power generation fell 1.0 percent compared to August 2012. The average retail price of electricity for August 2013 was 10.58 cents per kilowatthour, up 2.3 percent from what it had been in August 2012.
