Short-Term Energy Outlook - Market Prices and Uncertainty Report
Jun 9, 2015
Crude oil prices continued to rise in April and reached their highest levels of the year. The North Sea Brent front month futures price settled at $65.54 per barrel (b) on May 7, an increase of $8.44/b since the close on April 1. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) front month futures price rose by $8.85/b over the same period to settle at $58.94/b on May 7.
Short-Term Energy Outlook
Jun 9, 2015
North Sea Brent crude oil prices averaged $64/barrel (b) in May, a $5/b increase from April and the highest monthly average of 2015. Despite estimated global inventories increasing by more than 2 million barrels per day (b/d) for the third consecutive month, several factors contributed to higher prices in May, including continued signals of higher global oil demand growth, expectations for declining U.S. tight oil production in the coming months, and the growing risk of unplanned supply outages in the Middle East and North Africa.
Drilling Productivity Report
Jun 8, 2015
EIA’s monthly Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) has been released. The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key fields.
Issues in International Energy Consumption Analysis: Canadian Energy Demand
Jun 2, 2015
The residential sector is one of the main end-use sectors in Canada accounting for 16.7% of total end-use site energy consumption in 2009 (computed from NRCan 2012. pp, 4-5). In this year, the residential sector accounted for 54.5% of buildings total site energy consumption. Between 1990 and 2009, Canadian household energy consumption grew by less than 11%. Nonetheless, households contributed to 14.6% of total energy-related greenhouse gas emissions in Canada in 2009 (computed from NRCan 2012). This is the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s second study to help provide a better understanding of the factors impacting residential energy consumption and intensity in North America (mainly the United States and Canada) by using similar methodology for analyses in both countries.
Egypt Country Analysis Brief
Jun 2, 2015
Egypt is the largest oil producer in Africa outside of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the second-largest natural gas producer on the continent, behind Algeria. Egypt plays a vital role in international energy markets through the operation of the Suez Canal and the Suez-Mediterranean (SUMED) Pipeline. The SUMED Pipeline is the only alternative route nearby the Suez Canal to transport crude oil from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea if ships are unable to navigate through the Suez Canal. Fees collected from the operation of these two transit points are significant sources of revenue for the Egyptian government.

• Preliminary total consumption for March 2015 was 2,636 Bcf, or 85.0 Bcf/day, an increase of 2.3% from 2,576 Bcf in March 2014, or 83.1 Bcf/day.
• Total consumption of dry natural gas for March 2015 decreased in three of four sectors year to year, with the exception being electric power deliveries, which increased significantly from last March:
o Deliveries to residential consumers for March 2015 were 640 Bcf, or 20.6 Bcf/day, down 8.6% from 22.6 Bcf/day in March 2014
o Commercial deliveries were 389 Bcf, or 12.5 Bcf/day, a 7.4% decrease from 13.5 Bcf/day in March 2014
o Industrial deliveries were 664 Bcf, or 21.4 Bcf/day, down 2.4% from 21.9 Bcf/day in March 2014
o Electric power deliveries were 717 Bcf, or 23.1 Bcf/day, a 28.3% rise from 18.0 Bcf/day in March 2014
• Beginning this month, the gross production and related estimates have been updated back to January 2015. The revised estimates represent an expanded sample for the source survey, EIA-914, that now has greater coverage of additional producing states.
• Beginning this month, natural gas consumption volumes and prices have been estimated back to January 2015 using a new methodology. For further details, please see Appendix C.

U.S. Crude Oil Production to 2025: Updated Projection of Crude Types
May 28, 2015
This report updates and extends a May 2014 EIA report, U.S. crude oil production forecast – analysis of crude types. It provides a projection of domestic crude oil production by crude type through 2025, supplementing the overall production projection provided in the AEO2015. Projections of production by crude type matter for several reasons. First, U.S. crude streams vary widely in quality. Second, the economics surrounding various options for the domestic use of additional domestic oil production are directly dependent on crude quality characteristics. Third, actual or potential export values also vary significantly with quality characteristics.
Colombia Country Analysis Brief
May 27, 2015
Colombia has seen a dramatic increase in oil, natural gas, and coal production since the implementation of a series of regulatory reforms in 2003. However, after nearly a half-decade of relatively secure operations, attacks on oil and natural gas pipelines have increased. Expanded oil production will require discoveries of reserves and improvements to infrastructure safety.
