The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key fields.
Short-Term Energy Outlook - Market Prices and Uncertainty Report
Aug 9, 2016
Crude oil prices broke below $45/b and out of of a two-month-long trading range in July. The front-month Brent crude oil price decreased $6.06 per barrel (b) since July 1, settling at $44.29/b on August 4 (Figure 1). The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil price settled at $41.93/b, declining $7.06/b over the same time.
Short-Term Energy Outlook
Aug 9, 2016
EIA estimates that the amount of electricity generated using natural gas reached a record high during July, surpassing the previous record set in July 2015. The record natural gas-fired generation was driven by competitive economics compared with coal (despite recent natural gas price increases) and by warmer-than-normal temperatures that boosted overall electricity generation. For 2016, EIA expects natural gas to fuel 34% of electricity generation compared with 30% for coal. In 2015, natural gas was used to generate slightly less than 33% of electricity, and coal was used to generate slightly more than 33% of electricity.

The data cover the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.
Petroleum Marketing Monthly
Aug 1, 2016
The August 2016 Petroleum Marketing Monthly (PMM), with data through May 2016, presents monthly and annual price and volume statistics covering crude oil and refined products sales in the United States.
In this issue of the PMM, preliminary monthly data show prices for crude oil and finished petroleum products remained on an upward path in May. At the national level, Prime Supplier data show sales of gasoline were 2.8% higher than the rate seen for May 2015.
Natural Gas Monthly
Jul 29, 2016
• In May 2016, for the second consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year-to-year for the same month in 2015. Preliminary dry natural gas production for May 2016 was 2,262 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 73.0 Bcf/day. This level was a 0.6 Bcf/day (0.9%) decrease from the May 2015 level of 73.6 Bcf/day.
• Preliminary dry natural gas consumption for May 2016 was 1,992 Bcf, or 64.3 Bcf/day. This level was an increase of 6.2%, or 3.8 Bcf/day, from the 1,875 Bcf consumed in May 2015.
• Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in May increased in all four consuming sectors. Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in May 2016 were as follows:
o Residential deliveries were 197 Bcf, or 6.4 Bcf/day, up 9.4% from 5.8 Bcf/day in May 2015.
o Commercial deliveries were 171 Bcf, or 5.5 Bcf/day, up 5.5% from 5.2 Bcf/day in May 2015.
o Industrial deliveries were 617 Bcf, or 19.9 Bcf/day, up 2.8% from 19.4 Bcf/day in May 2015. Industrial deliveries were the highest for the month since EIA began using the current sectoral definitions introduced in 2001.
o Electric power deliveries were 807 Bcf, or 26.0 Bcf/day, up 9.2% from 23.8 Bcf/day in May 2015. Electric power deliveries were the second-highest for the month since EIA began tracking them in 2001.
