Electric Power Monthly

Data in the March 2018 Electric Power Monthly (EPM) are for January 2018, during which net generation in the United States rose 9.3 percent from the January 2017 level. Consumption of natural gas for power generation was up 22.3 percent compared to January 2017. The average residential retail price of electricity for January 2018 was up 0.2 percent from what it had been in January 2017.

United Kingdom Country Analysis Brief

United Kingdom (UK) oil and natural gas production have grown on average almost 9% and 4% per year, respectively, from 2014 through 2016. Among European countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the UK was the second-largest producer of petroleum and other liquids in 2016; only Norway produced more. The UK was the third-largest producer of natural gas in OECD Europe, surpassed only by Norway and the Netherlands.

State Energy Profiles: New monthly data for December 2017 and January 2018, new annual data, and updated Profile Analyses and Quick Facts

North Sea Brent crude oil spot prices averaged $65 per barrel (b) in February, a decrease of $4/b from the January level and the first month-over-month average decrease since June 2017. EIA forecasts Brent spot prices will average about $62/b in both 2018 and 2019 compared with an average of $54/b in 2017.

Monthly data on rail movements of crude oil have been updated for December 2017. Crude oil movements by rail have significantly increased over the past five years. The data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.

In December 2017, for the seventh consecutive month, dry natural gas production increased year-to-year from the same month a year ago. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in December 2017 was 2,427 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 78.3 Bcf/day. This level was 7.1 Bcf/day (10.0%) higher than the December 2016 level of 71.2 Bcf/day. The average daily rate of dry natural gas production for December was the highest for any month since EIA began tracking monthly dry production in 1973.
