Net metering
Net metering: Utility tariffs or billing programs that allow certain types of customers to reduce the volume of billed electricity supplied by the grid within a defined billing period. The reduced volume of billed electricity takes into account the amount of electricity that the customer sold back to the grid during times when self-generation (typically powered by a renewable energy source) exceeded consumption.
