Australia Country Analysis Brief

Oct 28, 2011
Australia was the world's largest coal exporter and the fourth largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in 2010, after Qatar, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Australia is a net importer of crude oil and refined petroleum products, but a net exporter of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Hydrocarbon exports accounted for 34 percent of total commodity export revenues in its fiscal year 2009-2010. Australia's dependence on oil imports is projected to increase as domestic consumption increases and production continues to decline.

Monthly Energy Review

Oct 27, 2011
EIA's most comprehensive report on recent integrated energy statistics. Preliminary data indicate that total carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption in the United States equaled 482 million metric tons in July 2011. Of this total, petroleum accounted for 40 percent, coal for 39 percent, and natural gas for 21 percent.

State CO2 Emissions

Oct 27, 2011
The state data include a summary table with total energy-related CO2 by state beginning in 1990, a table with emissions by fuel in 2009 and a table with emissions by sector in 2009. Detailed tables for individual states provide emissions by fuel and sector for data beginning in 1980. Documentation for methodology is also included on the data page.

Analysis of Impacts of a Clean Energy Standard as requested by Rep. Ralph Hall

Oct 25, 2011
This report responds to a request from Chairman Ralph M. Hall of the House Committee on Science and Technology, providing an analysis of the energy market and economic impacts of a clean energy standard (CES). The CES specified by Chairman Hall requires electricity retailers to provide 80 percent of their sales by 2035 from qualified clean energy sources which include combined-cycle natural gas plants, fossil-fueled plants with carbon capture and storage, renewable plants and nuclear plants.

Prime Supplier Report

Oct 21, 2011
The latest Prime Supplier Report presents data collected through August 2011 on Form EIA—782C, "Monthly Report of Prime Supplier Sales of Petroleum Products Sold for Local Consumption." These data measure primary petroleum product deliveries into the States where they are locally marketed and consumed.

U.S. Natural Gas Imports & Exports: 2010

Oct 20, 2011
Full natural gas import and export data for 2010 is now available. During 2010, United States natural gas net imports fell 3 percent to 2.6 trillion cubic feet. Increased domestic sources of natural gas helped maintain competitive prices and discouraged imports while encouraging exports. Natural gas imports declined modestly in 2010 by 11 billion cubic feet. Strong natural export growth drove net imports lower in 2010.

Wholesale Market Data

Oct 20, 2011
This site contains spreadsheets with wholesale electricity price data from ICE (IntercontinentalExchange) through October 14, 2011. The files contain peak prices, volumes, and the number of transactions at six electricity trading hubs covering most regions of the United States.

Energy Perspectives

Oct 19, 2011
Energy Perspectives is a graphical overview of energy history in the United States. The 43 graphs shown here reveal sweeping trends related to the Nation's production, consumption, and trade of energy from 1949 through 2010.

Annual Energy Review 2010

Oct 19, 2011
EIA's most comprehensive record of historical annual integrated energy statistics. Preliminary data indicate that U.S. primary energy production reached a record high of 75 quadrillion Btu in 2010, a 3% increase from the previous year. Primary energy consumption equaled 98 quadrillion Btu in 2010, a 4% increase from the previous year.

Electric Power Monthly

Oct 14, 2011
The latest data are for July 2011, during which net generation in the United States was up 2.2 percent from the July 2010. The average retail price of electricity increased 0.8 percent from July 2010.

Market Prices and Uncertainty Report - STEO Supplement

Oct 12, 2011
World crude oil prices generally moved downward during the month of September, with Brent crude oil falling over $12 during the month and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) a slightly lower $9. Economic concerns and a continued debt crisis in Europe lowered price levels across multiple asset classes; physical oil prices, in turn, were affected by lower expectations about near and mid-term world oil demand growth.

Short-Term Energy and Winter Fuels Outlook

Oct 12, 2011
EIA projects average household heating expenditures for natural gas, propane, and heating oil will increase by 3 percent, 7 percent, and 8 percent, respectively, this winter (October 1 to March 31) compared with last winter, while electricity heating expenditures fall by less than 1 percent. Average expenditures for households that heat with oil are forecast to be higher than in any previous winter.

South Korea Country Analysis Brief

Oct 11, 2011
South Korea was the world's tenth largest energy consumer in 2008, and with its lack of domestic reserves, Korea is one of the top energy importers in the world. The country is the fifth largest importer of crude oil, the third largest importer of coal, and the second largest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Despite its lack of domestic energy resources, South Korea is home to some of the largest and most advanced oil refineries in the world.

U.S. industrial natural gas consumption expected to hit records in 2026 and 2027 ›

We forecast U.S. industrial natural gas consumption will climb to record highs through 2027 in our latest Short-Term Energy Outlook. Industrial consumption averaged a record 23.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2025, 1% more than the record 23.4 Bcf/d reached in 2023. In our forecast, consumption gradually increases further in 2026 and in 2027 as we expect the natural gas-weighted manufacturing index to also rise slightly over this period. More
