Entergy Corporation closes the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Massachusetts
Jun 13, 2019
On May 31, 2019, Entergy Nuclear Generation Company (Entergy), a business unit of Entergy Corporation, permanently closed its 679 (summer-weighted) megawatt (MW) Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (Pilgrim) located along the shores of Cape Cod Bay. Southern California Gas Company working natural gas storage inventories are back at parity with 2018 inventories
Jun 12, 2019
Increased natural gas storage injections since March have brought Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) inventories back to parity with 2018 levels; current natural gas storage inventories are about 10 billion cubic feet (Bcf) greater than at this point in 2017. SoCalGas reported inventories of 58.8 Bcf on June 11, 2019, or just 0.2 Bcf lower than the inventories on June 11, 2018. From June 8-10, SoCalGas reported higher natural gas storage inventories compared with the same period in 2018, which was the first time that 2019 inventories have exceeded 2018 inventories since February 2019.
Short-Term Energy Outlook
Jun 11, 2019
Brent crude oil spot prices averaged $71 per barrel (b) in May, largely unchanged from April 2019 and almost $6/b lower than the price in May of last year. However, Brent prices fell sharply in recent weeks, reaching $62/b on June 5. EIA forecasts Brent spot prices will average $67/b in 2019, $3/b lower than the forecast in last month’s STEO, and remain at $67/b in 2020. EIA’s lower 2019 Brent price path reflects rising uncertainty about global oil demand growth.

U.S. working natural gas stocks deficit to the five-year average fall to lowest level since March 2018
Jun 3, 2019
In the United States, working natural gas in storage in the Lower 48 states totaled 1,867 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 257 Bcf less than the five-year average for the week ending May 24, 2019. This level is the smallest deficit to the preceding five-year average since December 29, 2017, when it totaled 192 Bcf. In 2019, the working natural gas deficit to the five-year average was largest when it was 565 Bcf for the week ending March 8. Since then, net weekly injections into working natural gas have been larger than their previous five-year average for 11 consecutive weeks because of year-over-year natural gas production gains and relatively modest natural gas consumption as a result of relatively mild temperatures in most parts of the Lower 48 states. The deficit of the winter of 2018–19 reached 725 Bcf for the week ending November 30, 2018, the largest deficit to the previous five-year average since 2010. Lower 48 states' working natural gas stocks have not exceeded their previous five-year average for any week since September 2017.
