Short-Term Energy Outlook

Feb 11, 2025
Global oil inventories. We expect OPEC+ production cuts will reduce global oil inventories and keep crude oil prices near current levels through the first quarter of 2025. Gradual increases in production combined with relatively weak global oil demand growth will increase global oil inventories in the second half of 2025 through 2026, placing downward pressure on prices through the remainder of our forecast. As a result, we forecast that the Brent crude oil price will average $74 per barrel (b) in 2025 before falling to $66/b in 2026.

India Country Analysis Brief

Feb 6, 2025
India was the third largest energy consumer in the world in 2023 behind China and the United States. In 2023, India passed China to become the world’s most populous country in the world with 1.44 billion people. It’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.8% in 2023 from the previous year. It is one of the fastest growing economies and the fourth-largest economy in the world.

Wholesale Electricity and Natural Gas Market Data

This site contains spreadsheets with wholesale electricity and natural gas data from seven major trading hubs that cover most regions of the United States. The data are through February 4, 2025, republished, with permission, from the Intercontinental Exchange.

Caspian Sea Regional Brief

Feb 6, 2025
The Caspian Sea region is one of the oldest oil-producing areas in the world. The four Caspian countries covered in this brief accounted for 3% of global energy production and 1% of global energy consumption in 2023, with Kazakhstan accounting for almost one-half of the region’s energy production and consumption. OPEC+ member Azerbaijan was the top producer of oil and natural gas from offshore Caspian Sea fields, and almost all of its petroleum and natural gas production comes from offshore in the Caspian Sea.

Petroleum Marketing Monthly

Feb 3, 2025
The February 2025 Petroleum Marketing Monthly, with data through November 2024, presents monthly and annual price and volume statistics for crude oil sales in the United States.

Natural Gas Monthly

Jan 31, 2025
In November 2024, dry natural gas production decreased year over year for the eighth time in the past nine months. Preliminary dry natural gas production in November 2024 was 3,088 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 102.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 2.5% (2.6 Bcf/d) lower in November 2024 than in November 2023 (105.5 Bcf/d). Despite this decrease, dry gas production was the second highest for the month since 1973, the earliest year in this data set. Gross withdrawals increased from November 2023.

Coal Transportation Rates to the Electric Power Sector

Jan 29, 2025
We released new data on the electric power sector’s coal transportation costs. The release incorporates final data for 2023 from Form EIA-923, which we collect from electric power plant owners and operators. The data release based on our Form EIA-923 includes tables with costs, in nominal and real (2023) dollars, across regions, states, and modes of transportation.

U.S. small-scale solar generation has quadrupled in the last decade  ›

We estimate that U.S. generation from small-scale or rooftop solar photovoltaic systems (smaller than 1 megawatt of capacity) has increased from 18,812 gigawatthours (GWh) to 92,979 GWh over the last decade. The four states with the highest generation of small-scale solar in the country—California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida—are in regions with more abundant solar resources. Even though it is in a region with lower solar resources, New York ranks as the fifth-largest rooftop solar generation producer as a result of capacity growth supported by technology improvements and state incentives.
