Monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on Form EIA-914 (Monthly Natural Gas Production Report) for Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, Other States and Lower 48 States. Alaska data are from the State of Alaska and included to obtain a U.S. Total.

Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions. Preliminary MER data show that U.S. primary energy consumption rose almost 3% in the first 2 months of 2010 compared with the first 2 months of 2009, due to increases in the consumption of natural gas, coal, and biomass. Total energy consumption in the residential and industrial sectors of the U.S. economy increased by 6% and 4%, respectively, due primarily to increases in the consumption of natural gas. International Energy Outlook 2010-Highlights

The highlights section of the International Energy Outlook 2010 has been released. This report presents an assessment by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the outlook for international energy markets through 2035. U.S. projections appearing in IEO2010 are consistent with those published in EIA's Annual Energy Outlook 2010 (AEO2010 ), (April 2010).
Notable highlights include:
- World marketed energy consumption increases by 49 percent from 2007 to 2035 in the Reference case.
- Total energy demand in the non-OECD countries increases by 84 percent, compared with an increase of 14 percent in the OECD countries.
Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE)

The May issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is available on EIA's Electricity page. This issue provides early highlights of March, 2010 electricity data. In March 2010, total electric power generation in the United States remained relatively unchanged compared to March 2009. The average U.S. retail price of electricity decreased 2.0 percent in March 2010 compared to the previous year.

EIA Updates Web Site on Residential Natural Gas Competition: The Energy
Information Administration (EIA) has updated its web site on the status
of natural gas residential choice programs in each State as of December 2009. Enrollment in "customer choice" programs increased in 2009 for the fourth year in a row, although the number of States offering choice remained the same. As of December 2009, 21 states and the District of Columbia have legislation or programs in place that allow residential consumers and other small-volume gas users to purchase natural gas from someone other than their traditional utility company. Total enrollment in "customer choice" programs reached a new high in 2009, increasing 9 percent over the level in 2008.
Electric Power Monthly February 2010 data

The latest EPM issue (May 2010) is now available on EIA's Electricity page. Data are for February 2010, during which net generation in the United States grew by 5.9 percent and consumption of coal for power generation grew by 7.6 percent compared to February 2009. The average retail price of electricity for February 2010 was 9.52 cents per kilowatthour (kWh), 2.9 percent lower than February 2009 when the average retail price of electricity was 9.80 cents per kWh.

International Petroleum Monthly - April 2010

This report includes world petroleum production statistics through February 2010. The IPM also includes estimates for petroleum demand, stocks, and imports for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries through January 2010.

Kuwait is one of the worlds top exporters of oil, with about 2.4 million barrels per day exported in 2008. Kuwait's economy is heavily dependent on oil export revenues which account for roughly 90 percent of total export earnings. Kuwait channels around 10 percent of its oil revenues into the "Future Generations Fund" for the day when oil income runs out.

U.S. Carbon Dioxide Emissions in 2009: A Retrospective Review

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) recently expanded its reporting of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions starting in the fall of 2009. This analysis examines the level and drivers of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in 2009.
In 2009, energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in the United States saw their largest absolute and percentage decline (405 million metric tons or 7.0 percent) since the start of EIA's comprehensive record of annual energy data that begins in 1949.
Monthly Biodiesel Production Report

This is the first issue of the Monthly Biodiesel Production Report. It presents data for all of 2008 and monthly data for January through March 2009. Data include inventory held by biodiesel producers, production capacity, production, sales quantities and sales revenue. Production capacity is reported at the National and State levels. The data for 2009 will be published in quarterly reports on an accelerated schedule. Routine publication of the monthly report is expected approximately 75 days after the end of a calendar month
