OPEC Revenues Factsheet

Jul 21, 2011
Based on projections from the EIA July 2011 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $1,028 billion of net oil export revenues in 2011 and $1,108 billion in 2012. Last year, OPEC earned $778 billion in net oil export revenues, a 35 percent increase from 2009. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $225 billion, representing 29 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earnings reached $2,074 in 2010.

Electric Power Monthly

Jul 20, 2011
Data are for April 2011, during which net generation in the United States rose 5.2 percent from the April 2010 level. Consumption of coal for power generation fell 0.4 percent compared to April 2010. The average retail price of electricity for April 2011 was 9.65 cents per kilowatthour, 0.7 percent higher than April 2010, when the price was 9.58 cents per kWh.

Kuwait Country Analysis Brief

Jul 13, 2011
Kuwait is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and exported the fourth largest volume of crude oil among the group in 2010. At the same time, Kuwait's economy is one heavily dependent on petroleum export revenues, which account for half of its overall gross domestic product (GDP), 95 percent of total export earnings, and 95 percent of government revenues.

Quarterly Coal Distribution Report

Jul 13, 2011
The Quarterly Coal Distribution Report provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data for January - March 2011 excluding waste coal and imports by coal origin, coal destination, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly coal distribution data for all years are preliminary and will be superseded by the release of the corresponding, Annual Coal Distribution Report.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Jul 12, 2011
World crude oil prices initially fell following the June 23 announcement by the International Energy Agency (IEA) that its member countries would release up to 60 million barrels from strategic reserves but then rose above the pre-announcement levels in late June and early July.

Mexico Country Analysis Brief

Jul 11, 2011
Mexico is a major non-OPEC oil producer and the United States' second largest source of oil imports. Mexico produced slightly less than 3 million barrels of oil per day (bpd) in 2010, a 500,000 bpd decrease since 2007. EIA projects that Mexico will become a net oil importer by 2020.

Quarterly Coal Report

Jul 11, 2011
Provides detailed quarterly coal data for January-March 2011 and aggregated quarterly historical coal data for 2005 through 1st Quarter 2011. Review of Emerging Resources: U.S. Shale Gas and Shale Oil Plays

Jul 8, 2011
To gain a better understanding of the potential U.S. domestic shale gas and shale oil resources, EIA commissioned INTEK, Inc. to develop an assessment of onshore Lower 48 States technically recoverable shale gas and shale oil resources. This paper briefly describes the scope, methodology, and key results of the report and discusses the key assumptions that underlie the results. There is considerable uncertainty regarding the ultimate size of technically recoverable shale gas and shale oil resources, and the resource estimates will be modified over time as more wells are drilled and completed, technologies evolve, and the long-term performance of shale wells becomes better established.

Assumptions to the Annual Energy Outlook 2011

Jul 8, 2011
This report presents the major assumptions of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) used to generate the projections in the Annual Energy Outlook 2011, including general features of the model structure, assumptions concerning energy markets, and the key input data and parameters that are the most significant in formulating the model results.

Argentina Country Analysis Brief

Jul 7, 2011
Argentina is a significant South American oil and natural gas producer, but in recent years its production has been in decline while energy demand has grown. Argentina is the largest producer and consumer of natural gas in South America, and though it remains a net exporter of oil, it depends increasingly upon imports of natural gas. For a summary of the energy sector in Argentina, please see our updated Country Analysis Brief.

U.S. industrial natural gas consumption expected to hit records in 2026 and 2027 ›

We forecast U.S. industrial natural gas consumption will climb to record highs through 2027 in our latest Short-Term Energy Outlook. Industrial consumption averaged a record 23.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2025, 1% more than the record 23.4 Bcf/d reached in 2023. In our forecast, consumption gradually increases further in 2026 and in 2027 as we expect the natural gas-weighted manufacturing index to also rise slightly over this period. More
