Natural Gas Monthly

Aug 30, 2011
The August issue of the NGM, featuring data for June 2011, is now available. Led by natural gas consumption for electric power, total natural gas consumption for June 2011 was 1,632 billion cubic feet (Bcf), the lowest month of 2011 but nearly identical to consumption in June 2010. Dry gas production was relatively stable at 1,891 Bcf, declining three percent from revised May 2011 dry production of 1,953 Bcf.

Monthly Energy Review - August 2011

Aug 29, 2011
EIA's most comprehensive report on recent integrated energy statistics. Preliminary data indicate that total energy consumption by the U.S. transportation sector equaled 2.3 quadrillion Btu in May 2011, a 2% decrease from May 2010.

Nigeria Country Analysis Brief

Aug 24, 2011
Nigeria's hydrocarbon resources are the mainstay of the country's economy but development of the oil and natural gas sectors is often constrained by instability in the Niger Delta. Oil and natural gas investments are currently on hold pending the outcome of the Petroleum Industry Bill.

Syria Country Analysis Brief

Aug 22, 2011
Although Syria produces relatively modest quantities of oil and gas, its location is strategic in terms of regional security and prospective energy transit routes.

Report on Air-Conditioning Trends in the U.S.

Aug 19, 2011
The latest results from the 2009 Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) show that 87 percent of U.S. households are now equipped with air-conditioning. This growth occurred among all housing types and in every Census region. Wider use has coincided with much improved energy efficiency standards for AC equipment, a population shift to hotter and more humid regions, and a housing boom during which average housing sizes increased.

U.S. Energy-Related Carbon Dioxide Emissions, 2010

Aug 18, 2011
U.S. Energy Information Administration releases its online analysis of 2010 energy-related carbon dioxide emissions today. It indicates U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption of fossil fuels were 5,638 million metric tons carbon dioxide (MMTCO2) in 2010, an increase of 3.9 percent from the 2009 level. This is the largest percentage increase in U.S. energy-related carbon dioxide emissions since 1988. However emissions are still 6 percent below the 2005 level. Since 1990, U.S. carbon dioxide emissions have grown at an average annual rate of 0.6 percent.

Annual Energy Outlook 2010 Retrospective Review

Aug 18, 2011
The Annual Energy Outlook 2010 Retrospective Review provides a yearly comparison between realized energy outcomes and the Reference case projections included in previous AEOs beginning with 1982. This edition of the report adds the AEO 2010 projections and updates the historical data to incorporate the latest data revisions.

Monthly Flash Estimate

Aug 17, 2011
This issue provides early highlights of June 2011 electricity data. In June 2011, total electric power generation in the United States decreased 3.0 percent compared to June 2010. The average U.S. retail price of electricity increased 0.9 percent in June 2011 compared to the previous year.

Angola Country Analysis Brief

Aug 15, 2011
Angola, an OPEC member, is the second largest oil producing country in Africa and a significant supplier to both China and the United States. In 2012, Angola is expected to start exporting LNG which will provide an additional source of export earnings. Domestically, the country lacks the necessary infrastructure to meet electricity demand. According to the IEA about 13.7 million people lack access to electricity.

OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Aug 11, 2011
Based on projections from the EIA August 2011 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $1,011 billion of net oil export revenues in 2011 and $1,105 billion in 2012. Last year, OPEC earned $778 billion in net oil export revenues, a 35 percent increase from 2009. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $225 billion, representing 29 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earnings reached $2,074 in 2010.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Aug 9, 2011
EIA expects the U.S. average refiner acquisition cost of crude oil will rise from $100 per barrel in 2011 to $107 per barrel in 2012 as global spare production capacity and inventories continue to decline. This forecast assumes that U.S. real gross domestic product (GDP) grows by 2.4 percent this year and 2.6 percent next year, while world oil-consumption-weighted real GDP grows by 3.4 and 4.1 percent in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Norway Country Analysis Brief

Aug 5, 2011
Norway is the largest holder of natural gas and oil reserves in Europe and provides much of the oil and gas consumed on the continent. In 2010 Norway was the second largest exporter of gas in the world after Russia. Although Norway's oil production peaked in 2001 and has been on a declining trend since, natural gas production has been steadily increasing.

Natural Gas Monthly

Aug 2, 2011
The July issue of the NGM, featuring data for May 2011, is now available. The preliminary monthly estimate of industrial consumption of natural gas in the United States totaled 534 billion cubic feet (Bcf), the lowest amount for any 2011 month thus far, though still a slight increase over the 527 Bcf for May 2010. Year-to-date total consumption of natural gas is 11,030 trillion cubic feet, and remains above 2010 and 2009 levels at a 2 and 5 percent year-on-year increase, respectively.

U.S. industrial natural gas consumption expected to hit records in 2026 and 2027 ›

We forecast U.S. industrial natural gas consumption will climb to record highs through 2027 in our latest Short-Term Energy Outlook. Industrial consumption averaged a record 23.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2025, 1% more than the record 23.4 Bcf/d reached in 2023. In our forecast, consumption gradually increases further in 2026 and in 2027 as we expect the natural gas-weighted manufacturing index to also rise slightly over this period. More
