The February 2012 Natural Gas Monthly, featuring data through December 2011, has been released. Spurred by shale drilling and resulting lower price levels, the preliminary year-end data for 2011 indicate that both natural gas production and consumption levels were at record-levels, with gross production at 28.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) and total consumption at 24.4 Tcf, an increase 6.5 and 2.5 percent above 2010 levels, respectively.
Additionally, this issue of the Natural Gas Monthly features State-level gas consumption and prices used for electricity generation through December 2011 (the State-level data formerly lagged 30 days behind the other gas consumption series).

Changes to Table 26. "Production of Crude Oil by PAD District and State":
Current State-level data are now included in Table 26, in addition to current U.S. and PAD District sums. State offshore production for Louisiana, Texas, Alaska, and California, which are included in the State totals, are no longer reported separately in a "State Offshore Production" category. Previously, State-level values lagged 2 months behind the U.S. and PAD District values. Beginning with this publication, they will be on the same cycle. Also included in this publication are two additional pages for Table 26 that provide October and November data. With the release of the next Petroleum Supply Monthly and subsequent issues, revised State-level data from previous months will be reported in the Petroleum Navigator. State data will be revised monthly.
Fuel Oil and Kerosene Sales

The Fuel Oil and Kerosene Sales 2010 report provides information, illustrations and State-level statistical data on end-use sales of kerosene; No.1, No. 2, and No. 4 distillate fuel oil; and residual fuel oil. State-level kerosene sales include volumes for residential, commercial, industrial, farm, and all other uses. State-level distillate sales include volumes for residential, commercial, industrial, oil company, railroad, vessel bunkering, military, electric utility, farm, on-highway, off-highway construction, and other uses. State-level residual fuel sales include volumes for commercial, industrial, oil company, vessel bunkering, military, electric utility, and other uses.

This report was prepared in fulfillment of Section 1245(d)(4)(A) of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012, which requires that, not later than 60 days from enactment and every 60 days thereafter, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) "submit to Congress a report on the availability and price of petroleum and petroleum products produced in countries other than Iran in the 60-day period preceding the submission of the report."

Alaska data are from the State of Alaska and included to obtain a U.S. Total.

The latest Electric Power Monthly (EPM) is now available. The data in the current issue are for December 2011, during which net generation in the United States was down 7.1 percent. Retail sales of electricity were down 6.1 percent. The average U.S. retail price of electricity were up 1.3 percent.

EIA expects the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil to average about $100 per barrel in 2012, almost $6 per barrel higher than the average price last year. Based on recent futures and options data, the market believes there is about a one-in-fifteen chance that the average WTI price in June 2012 will exceed $125 per barrel, and about a one-in-fifty chance that it will exceed $140 per barrel.

Data covering prime supplier sales of finished petroleum products for local consumption show gasoline sales were flat in November, while distillate sales increased slightly.
