Electric power sales, revenue, and energy efficiency (Form EIA-861) final 2012 data
Oct 29, 2013
Updated spreadsheets for 2012 with detailed survey data from Form EIA-861 are now available. The files contain electricity sales, revenue, and price data, as well as Demand Side Management (DSM), green pricing, net metering, dispersed and distributed generation data. The geographic coverage for the data is the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.
Japan Country Analysis Brief
Oct 29, 2013
Japan is one of the largest global importers of hydrocarbons as a result of limited domestic energy resources and a high level of energy consumption. After the Fukushima nuclear incident in early 2011, the country has become even more dependent on fossil fuels for its electricity use.
Kazakhstan Country Analysis Brief
Oct 28, 2013
With total liquids production estimated at 1.64 million barrels per day (bbl/d) in 2013, Kazakhstan is a major producer, but its continued growth in liquids production will depend on the development of its giant Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan fields as well as expansion of the oil export infrastructure. The Kashagan field, the largest known oil field outside the Middle East and the fifth largest in the world in terms of reserves, reported first production on September 11, 2013, eight years after the original scheduled startup date.
Prime Supplier Report
Oct 25, 2013
The latest Prime Supplier Report presents data collected through August 2013 on Form EIA-782C, "Monthly Report of Prime Supplier Sales of Petroleum Products Sold for Local Consumption." These data measure primary petroleum product deliveries into the States where they are locally marketed and consumed.
Electric Power Monthly
Oct 24, 2013
Data in the October 2013 EPM are for August 2013, during which net generation in the United States fell 3.0 percent from the August 2012 level. Consumption of coal for power generation fell 1.0 percent compared to August 2012. The average retail price of electricity for August 2013 was 10.58 cents per kilowatthour, up 2.3 percent from what it had been in August 2012.
Drilling Productivity Report
Oct 22, 2013
EIA’s new Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. The DPR uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for six key fields. EIA's approach does not distinguish between oil-directed rigs and gas-directed rigs because once a well is completed it may produce both oil and gas; more than half of the wells produce both.
U.S. Energy-Related Carbon Dioxide Emissions, 2012
Oct 21, 2013
U.S. Energy Information Administration releases its online analysis of 2012 energy-related carbon dioxide emissions today. It indicates U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption of fossil fuels were 5,290 million metric tons carbon dioxide in 2012, a decrease of almost 4 percent from the 2011 level. Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions have declined in five of the last seven years and are the lowest they have been since 1994.
Libya Country Analysis Brief
Oct 10, 2013
Libya is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, the holder of Africa's largest proved oil reserves, and an important contributor to the global supply of light, sweet crude oil, which Libya mostly exports to European markets. Libya’s hydrocarbon production and exports have been substantially affected by civil unrest over the past few years. Libya's oil production was disrupted for most of 2011 because of the civil war, but it began to recover relatively rapidly following the cessation of most hostilities by the autumn of that year. The country’s oil sector was crippled again in mid-2013 as protests led to the closure of key loading ports, oil fields, pipelines, and a sharp deterioration of the security environment at oil installations.
Oman Country Analysis Brief
Oct 10, 2013
Oman is the largest oil and natural gas producer in the Middle East that is not a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and is an important energy exporter to Asia. Enhanced oil recovery techniques—including miscible, steam, and polymer injection—helped Oman’s oil production rebound from a multi-year decline in the early 2000s, and have helped the country maintain its crude oil exports. In 2012, over 95% of Oman’s crude oil exports went to Asian markets. Further, in 2012 all of Oman’s liquefied natural gas exports (approximately 395 billion cubic feet) also went to markets in Asia.

Projected U.S. household expenditures are 2% higher for electricity and 2% lower for heating oil this winter.
Quarterly Coal Report (QCR) April-June 2013
Oct 2, 2013
U.S. coal production during second quarter 2013 decreased 0.8% from first quarter 2013, but increased 0.8% year-over-year to 243.1 million short tons. During the first half of 2013, year-to-date production levels declined in both the Appalachian and Western Regions by 9.6% and 2.6%, respectively. While coal imports decreased 3.8% during the first six months of 2013, second quarter imports nearly doubled (92.8%) from first quarter 2013, and grew 18.4% from the same quarter in 2012 to 2.8 million short tons. Second quarter coal exports (29.4 million short tons) surpassed the five-year (2008-2012) second quarter average, but decreased 21.6% from second quarter 2012.
All data for 2011 and prior years are final. All data for 2012 and 2013 are preliminary.
