The August 2015 Petroleum Marketing Monthly (PMM), with data through May 2015, presents monthly and annual price and volume statistics covering crude oil and refined products sales in the United States.
In this edition of the PMM, preliminary data show crude oil prices continued to rise in May, as did most refiner prices for finished petroleum products sales. U.S.-level Prime Supplier data show sales of gasoline falling slightly month-on-month but remaining above the year-ago level.
Natural Gas Monthly

• Preliminary dry natural gas production for April 2015 was 2,239 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 74.6 Bcf/day, up from last month’s 74.2 Bcf/day. April's production was a 6.0 Bcf/day increase from 68.6 Bcf/day in April 2014, an 8.8% rise from year to year.
• Preliminary total natural gas consumption for April 2015 was 2,044 Bcf, or 68.1 Bcf/day, an increase of 3.5% from 1,975 Bcf in April 2014, or 65.8 Bcf/day.
• For the second consecutive month, total consumption of dry natural gas for April 2015 decreased in three of four sectors year to year, with the exception being electric power deliveries, which increased significantly from last April:
o Deliveries to residential consumers for April 2015 were 322 Bcf, or 10.7 Bcf/day, down 3.5% from 11.8 Bcf/day in April 2014.
o Commercial deliveries were 236 Bcf, or 7.9 Bcf/day, a 5.6% decrease from 8.3 Bcf/day in April 2014.
o Industrial deliveries were 610 Bcf, or 20.3 Bcf/day, down 2.9% from 20.9 Bcf/day in April 2014.
o Electric power deliveries were 669 Bcf, or 22.3 Bcf/day, a 21.6% rise from 18.3 Bcf/day in April 2014.
• Beginning this month, EIA is expanding its reporting of monthly natural gas production by 10 additional states on Form EIA-914. Arkansas, California, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, and West Virginia were added to Form EIA-914. The 18 remaining states (including the federal Pacific region) with natural gas production are collectively surveyed, from which natural gas production for the Other States category is estimated. All production-related Other States data have been revised back to January 2006 to include only these 18 remaining states/regions.
• Beginning this month, base natural gas reported on Form EIA-191 will be made publically available at the field level in the Natural Gas Annual Respondent Query System for January 2015 forward.
U.S. Movements of Crude Oil By Rail

Monthly data on rail movements of crude oil have been updated for May 2015. Crude oil movements by rail have significantly increased over the past five years. The new data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.
Monthly Biodiesel Production Report

The U.S. Energy Information Administration released new data today showing national and regional monthly biodiesel production for May 2015. In addition to biodiesel production, data included producer sales, producer stocks, and feedstock inputs.
Monthly Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production

EIA expanded the coverage of natural gas production to include a breakout for an additional 10 states based on data from the EIA-914 survey. The additional states include: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, and West Virginia. Estimates for the 10 states were previously included in the "other states" total. Estimates for production back to January 2015 now include the new breakout. EIA will continue to report natural gas gross withdrawals here instead of in the Natural Gas Gross Production Report.
Later this summer, EIA expects to report survey-based estimates for crude oil production (including lease condensate). Later in 2015, EIA will report monthly crude oil production by API gravity category for each state.

EIA's most comprehensive report on recent integrated energy statistics. Preliminary estimates indicate that for April 2015 the transportation sector accounted for 73% of total U.S. estimated petroleum consumption. The industrial sector accounted for 23%, the residential sector 2%, and the commercial and electric power sectors each accounted for 1%.
Russia Country Analysis Brief

Russia is a major producer and exporter of oil and natural gas, and its economy largely depends on energy exports. Russia was the world's largest producer of crude oil including lease condensate and the third-largest producer of petroleum and other liquids (after Saudi Arabia and the United States) in 2014, with average liquids production of 10.9 million barrels per day. Sanctions and lower oil prices have reduced foreign investment in Russia's upstream, especially in Arctic offshore and shale projects, and have made financing projects more difficult. However, these sanctions will have little effect on Russian production in the short term as these resources were not expected to begin producing for 5 to 10 years at the earliest.

The latest Prime Supplier Report presents data collected through May 2015 on Form EIA-782C, "Monthly Report of Prime Supplier Sales of Petroleum Products Sold for Local Consumption." These data measure primary petroleum product deliveries into the states where they are locally marketed and consumed.
Financal Review: First-quarter 2015

This review analyzes the financial and operating trends of the major global oil and natural gas companies’ public financial statement data. A couple of highlights:
Crude oil prices in first-quarter 2015 were the lowest in several years, which contributed to reduced profitability for these companies compared to previous quarters;
Although companies reduced investment spending, declines in operating cash flow were greater, contributing to a decline in cash balances.

Sales of Fossil Fuels Produced from Federal and Indian Lands, FY 2003 through FY 2014

The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that total sales of fossil fuels produced from Federal and Indian Lands increased in fiscal year 2014 compared to fiscal year 2013. Production of crude oil increased 7%, natural gas production declined 7%, natural gas plant liquids production increased by 8%, and coal production increased slightly. Detailed tables and maps of production, by State, are contained in the report.
EIA’s estimates are based on data provided by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Natural Resources Revenue.
State Energy Profiles: New Data for April and May 2015, 2013 and Updated Analytical Narratives

New monthly data are available for electricity, petroleum, and coal series. New annual data are also available for 10 series covering consumption and expenditures. In addition, analytical narratives have been updated for five states: Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.
Drilling Productivity Report

EIA’s monthly Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) has been released. The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key fields.
