Weekly Petroleum Status Report Exports Notice

Aug 31, 2016
Today's publication on August 31, 2016 of the Weekly Petroleum Status Report (WPSR) is now estimating weekly exports using near-real-time data provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). While EIA collects data on inventories, refinery and terminal operations, and imports, EIA does not collect any export data. To estimate weekly exports, EIA had previously relied on models using official monthly export data published by the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB) roughly six weeks following the end of each reporting month. Our new methodology using near-real-time CBP data provides a more accurate estimate of U.S. crude oil, petroleum products, and biofuels exports to better inform EIA's weekly estimates of domestic petroleum products supplied, a proxy for domestic consumption. For more information on this new methodology, please see Appendix D in the WPSR Explanatory Notes.

Petroleum Supply Monthly

Aug 31, 2016
Supply and disposition of crude oil and petroleum products on a national and regional level. The data series describe production, imports and exports, movements, and inventories.

Monthly Biodiesel Production Report

Aug 31, 2016
The U.S. Energy Information Administration released new data today showing national and regional monthly biodiesel production for June 2016. In addition to biodiesel production, data included producer sales, producer stocks, and feedstock inputs.

U.S. Movements of Crude Oil By Rail

Aug 31, 2016
Monthly data on rail movements of crude oil have been updated for June 2016. Crude oil movements by rail have significantly increased over the past five years. The new data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.

Monthly Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production

Aug 31, 2016
These monthly production estimates are based on data from the EIA-914, Monthly Crude Oil, Lease Condensate, and Natural Gas Production Report.

Company Level Imports

Aug 31, 2016
Imports data at the company level collected from the EIA-814 Monthly Imports Report.

Natural Gas Monthly

Aug 31, 2016
• In June 2016, for the third consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year-to-year for the same month in 2015. Preliminary dry natural gas production for June 2016 was 2,167 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 72.2 Bcf/day. This level was a 1.9 Bcf/day (2.6%) decrease from the June 2015 level of 74.1 Bcf/day. • Preliminary dry natural gas consumption for June 2016 was 2,026 Bcf, or 67.5 Bcf/day. This level was an increase of 5.7%, or 3.7 Bcf/day, from the 1,916 Bcf consumed in June 2015. • Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in June increased in three of the four consuming sectors, with the exception being residential deliveries, which decreased year-to-year. Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in June 2016 were as follows: o Residential deliveries in June 2016 were 123 Bcf, or 4.10 Bcf/day, down 0.8% from 4.13 Bcf/day in June 2015. Residential deliveries were the lowest for the month since EIA began tracking them in 1973, in part because temperatures in the Lower 48 states in June were the warmest on record. o Commercial deliveries were 139 Bcf, or 4.6 Bcf/day, up 3.0% from 4.5 Bcf/day in June 2015. o Industrial deliveries were 593 Bcf, or 19.8 Bcf/day, up 3.9% from 19.0 Bcf/day in June 2015. Industrial deliveries were the highest for the month since 2002. o Electric power deliveries were 977 Bcf, or 32.6 Bcf/day, up 9.4% from 29.8 Bcf/day in June 2015. Electric power deliveries were the highest for the month since EIA began tracking them in 2001.

Monthly Energy Review

Aug 26, 2016
EIA's most comprehensive report on recent integrated energy statistics. This month’s MER features two new tables: Table 10.5, “Solar Energy Consumption,” and Table 10.6 “Solar Electricity Net Generation.” Preliminary estimates indicate that U.S. total solar energy consumption rose from 42 trillion Btu in May 2015 to 56 trillion Btu in May 2016.

State Energy Profiles: New monthly data for May and June 2016 and updated analytical narratives and Quick Facts

Aug 19, 2016
New monthly data are available for electricity, petroleum, natural gas, and coal series. In addition, analytical narratives and Quick Facts have been updated for the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Quarterly Coal Distribution Report – Fourth Quarter 2015

Aug 17, 2016
Provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data for October – December 2015, excluding waste coal and imports, by coal origin, coal destination, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly coal distribution data for all years are preliminary and will be superseded by the release of the corresponding “Annual Coal Distribution Report.”

Domestic Uranium Production Report - Quarterly

Aug 15, 2016
Second quarter 2016 update of uranium production in the United States and operating status of U.S. uranium mills and plants.

Drilling Productivity Report

Aug 15, 2016
EIA’s monthly Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) has been released. The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key fields.

Short-Term Energy Outlook - Market Prices and Uncertainty Report

Aug 9, 2016
Crude oil prices broke below $45/b and out of of a two-month-long trading range in July. The front-month Brent crude oil price decreased $6.06 per barrel (b) since July 1, settling at $44.29/b on August 4 (Figure 1). The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil price settled at $41.93/b, declining $7.06/b over the same time.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Aug 9, 2016
EIA estimates that the amount of electricity generated using natural gas reached a record high during July, surpassing the previous record set in July 2015. The record natural gas-fired generation was driven by competitive economics compared with coal (despite recent natural gas price increases) and by warmer-than-normal temperatures that boosted overall electricity generation. For 2016, EIA expects natural gas to fuel 34% of electricity generation compared with 30% for coal. In 2015, natural gas was used to generate slightly less than 33% of electricity, and coal was used to generate slightly more than 33% of electricity.

Electricity generation from solar could exceed coal in ERCOT for the first time in 2026 ›

In our most recent Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), we forecast that annual electric power generation from utility-scale solar will surpass that from coal for the first time in 2026 within the electricity grid that covers most of Texas. Solar generation is expected to reach 78 billion kilowatthours (BkWh) in 2026 in the electricity grid operated by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) compared with 60 BkWh for coal.
