Specifically, DOE/FE asked the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) to assess how specified scenarios of increased natural gas exports could affect domestic energy markets, focusing on consumption, production, and prices.

The Quarterly Coal Distribution Report (QCDR) provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data for July - September 2011 excluding waste coal and imports by coal origin, coal destination, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly coal distribution data for all years are preliminary and will be superseded by the release of the corresponding Annual Coal Distribution Report.

Quarterly Coal Report (QCR) - 3rd Quarter 2011

Provides detailed quarterly coal data for July-September 2011 and aggregated quarterly historical coal data for 2005 through 3rd Quarter 2011. This report now includes data on co-firing fuels and carbon capture equipment from the Form EIA-3 survey and the heat content of coal from the Form EIA-5 survey. Both forms will collect data on coal origin by MSHA ID, mercury content, and commodity cost. Beginning with 2nd Quarter 2011, data on co-firing fuels and carbon capture equipment will be included from the EIA-3 survey. Form EIA-5 data will include the heat content of coal. U.S. coal production in the 3rd Quarter 2011 totaled 274.6 million short tons. Coal exports dropped by 3.8 percent to 26.0 million short tons from 27.0 million short tons in the 2nd Quarter 2011. U.S. coal imports increased by 4.9 percent to 3.6 million short tons from 2nd Quarter 2011. During the 3rd Quarter 2011, consumer coal stocks fell to 153.0 million short tons from 174.3 million short tons in 2nd Quarter 2011. Consumption increased to 279.6 million short tons in 3rd Quarter 2011 from 242.2 million short tons in 2nd Quarter 2011 due to the seasonal increase in coal use to generate electricity. All data for 2010 and prior years are final. All data for 2011 are preliminary.

Natural Gas Monthly

The December 2011 Natural Gas Monthly, which features data through October 2011, has been released. This issue contains extensive revisions to 2009 and 2010 data as a result of benchmarking to data published in the Natural Gas Annual 2010. These revisions primarily apply to statistics on production, underground storage, consumption, and prices by sector. Many 2011 monthly data series have been revised as well because of updated estimation parameters using 2010 annual data. The October 2011 monthly data show gross production of 2,483 billion cubic feet, the highest month on record.

Alaska data are from the State of Alaska and included to obtain a U.S. Total.

The Natural Gas Annual 2010 with comprehensive information on State-level natural gas consumption, production, storage and State to State flows has been released. The data show both increased production as well as consumption in all consuming sectors for 2010 with deliveries to the industrial and electric power sectors growing 6 and 7 percent from 2009, respectively. The Natural Gas Annual 2010 also contains extensive revisions to data for 2009.
