Preliminary dry natural gas production in November 2024 was 3,088 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 102.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 2.5% (2.6 Bcf/d) lower in November 2024 than in November 2023 (105.5 Bcf/d). Despite this decrease, dry gas production was the second highest for the month since 1973, the earliest year in this data set. Gross withdrawals increased from November 2023.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Jan 14, 2025
This edition of our Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) is the first to include forecasts for 2026. Macroeconomic assumptions are a key driver in the forecast. Our forecast assumes U.S. GDP will grow by 2% in both 2025 and 2026.
Global oil prices. We expect downward oil price pressures over much of the next two years, as we expect that global oil production will grow more than global oil demand. We forecast that the Brent crude oil price will average $74 per barrel (b) in 2025, 8% less than in 2024, and then continue fall another 11% to $66/b in 2026.

Most natural gas pipelines built in 2025 connect the South Central United States to supply ›

Natural gas pipeline projects completed in the United States in 2025 increased capacity by approximately 6.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), according to our recently updated Natural Gas Pipeline Projects Tracker. A substantial portion, 85%, or 5.3 Bcf/d, of this new capacity is dedicated to delivering natural gas to the South Central region of the United States. This region includes the Gulf Coast, where much of the nation's growing natural gas demand, particularly from liquefied natural gas (LNG), is concentrated. The new capacity primarily connects both new and existing supply sources to consumers in the region. More
