Short-Term Energy Outlook

Apr 10, 2018
For the 2018 April-September summer driving season, EIA forecasts U.S. regular gasoline retail prices to average $2.74/gallon (gal), up from an average of $2.41/gal last summer (see Summer Fuels Outlook). The higher forecast gasoline prices are primarily the result of higher forecast crude oil prices. For all of 2018, EIA expects U.S. regular gasoline retail prices to average $2.64/gal and gasoline retail prices for all grades to average $2.76/gal, which would result in the average U.S. household spending about $190 (9%) more on motor fuel in 2018 compared with 2017.

Oil and Natural Gas Resources and Technology

Mar 26, 2018
This first Issue in Focus article from the Annual Energy Outlook 2018 (AEO2018), future growth in U.S. crude oil and natural gas production is projected to be driven by the development of tight oil and shale gas resources. However, future domestic tight oil and shale gas production depends on the quality of the resources, the evolution of technological and operational improvements, and market prices, all of which are highly uncertain. This article provides background on the analysis of the estimated ultimate recovery per well (EUR), a key assumption underlying the projections, and it provides a detailed discussion of the sensitivity of results across AEO2018 cases.

Russia's oil exports have decreased modestly since 2022, shifting toward Asia ›

From 2020 to 2024, crude oil and condensate exports from Russia averaged 5.0 million barrels per day (b/d). Exports from Russia in the first half of 2025 (1H25) were 4.3 million b/d (compared with 4.8 million b/d in 2024). Even as crude oil export volumes from Russia have remained relatively high, the destination of these exports has shifted, mainly due to sanctions related to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
