Duties

Chris Namovicz serves as the Director for the Office of Electricity, leading the development, evaluation, and analysis of EIA data and statistics for the U.S. electric power sector and natural gas transmission and distribution sector. In this role, he also oversees EIA short- and long-term outlooks for these sectors.

Biography

Chris Namovicz has supported EIA’s mission for over 25 years. From 2020 to 2026, as the Team Lead for Electricity, Coal, and Renewables Modeling, he led development of EIA long-term projections for electricity capacity and generation from natural gas, nuclear, coal, and renewable resources. He was responsible for the modeling, analysis, and production of the electric power and coal sector components of the Annual Energy Outlook (AEO) and International Energy Outlook (IEO). He also managed content for related publications, including EIA’s annual levelized cost of electricity supplement, model documentation, and reports on the cost of new electricity generation equipment.

Chris served as the Team Lead for Renewable Electricity Analysis from 2014 to 2020, where he led EIA’s effort to model the impacts of renewable generation on grid operations and reliability. He led the development of a new International Electricity Market Module for the IEO. He also led publication of major EIA studies on the Clean Power Plan and Affordable Clean Energy rules.

Early in his career at EIA, Chris was the lead modeler for renewable energy resources, developing several innovative approaches to modeling wind and solar impacts on grid operations; supply of biomass energy resources; and the supply of new hydroelectric capacity.

Chris has an MS from Johns Hopkins University and a BS from Washington University in St. Louis.
