What's New for the Electric Power Annual 2020

The Electric Power Annual 2020 (EPA2020) report is now available with final data through 2020. The EPA2020 presents 11 years (2010–20) of national-level data on electricity generating capacity, electricity generation, and useful thermal output, fuel receipts, consumption, and emissions.

The EPA2020 includes:

  • A new table, Table 3.27. Gross/Net Generation by Energy Storage Technology, which provides gross and net generation from energy storage technologies such as batteries, pumped storage, fly wheels, and compressed air systems.
  • A new chapter, Chapter 11, Distribution System Reliability. Chapter 11 is composed of
    • Table 11.1. Reliability Metrics of U.S. Distribution System
    • Table 11.2. Reliability Metrics Using IEEE of U.S. Distribution System by State, 2020 and 2019
    • Table 11.3. Reliability Metrics Using Any Method of U.S. Distribution System by State, 2020 and 2019
    • Table 11.4. SAIDI values of U.S. Distribution System by State, 2013 – 2020
    • Table 11.5. SAIFI values of U.S. Distribution System by State, 2013 – 2020
    • Table 11.6 CAIDI values of U.S. Distribution System by State, 2013 – 2020. To accommodate the new Chapter 11, the previous Chapter 11 (U.S. Territories) has been moved to the newly created Chapter 12, U.S. Territories.

The EPA2020 discontinued the following Demand Side Management (DSM) tables:

  • Table 10.1. Demand-side management program annual effects by program category
  • Table 10.2. Demand-side management program annual effects by program category, by sector
  • Table 10.3. Demand-side management program incremental effects by program category
  • Table 10.4. Demand-side management program incremental effects by program category, by sector
  • Table 10.5. Demand-side management program direct and indirect costs

We stopped collecting these data in 2012. The DSM data are still available at Annual Electric Power Industry Report, Form EIA-861 detailed data files. Without these tables, the following tables have been renumbered:

  • Table 10.1. Energy efficiency
  • Table 10.2. Energy efficiency - life cycle
  • Table 10.3. Demand response yearly energy and demand savings
  • Table 10.4. Demand response- program costs
  • Table 10.5. Advanced metering count by technology type.

In addition, Chapter 10 has been renamed to Energy Efficiency, Demand Response and Advanced Meters.
