Jul 1, 2024 U.S. coal production during the first quarter of 2024 totaled 129.9 million short tons (MMst), which was 7.8% lower than the previous quarter and 12.7% lower than the first quarter of 2023. First-quarter 2024 U.S. coal exports (26.8 MMst) increased 2.4% from the fourth-quarter 2023 level and increased 8.9% from the first-quarter 2023 level. U.S. coal imports in the first quarter of 2024 totaled 0.3 MMst. All data for 2023 and previous years are final. All data for 2024 are preliminary.
Jul 1, 2024 The Quarterly Coal Distribution Report (QCDR) provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data (excluding waste coal and imports) for first-quarter 2024 by coal-origin state, coal-destination state, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly coal distribution data for all quarters are preliminary and will be updated in the corresponding Annual Coal Distribution Report.
Jul 1, 2024 The East China Sea is a semi-closed sea bordered by the Yellow Sea to the north, the South China Sea and Taiwan to the south, Japan's Ryukyu and Kyushu islands to the east, and the Chinese mainland to the west. It has a total area of approximately 290,000 square miles, consisting of mostly shallow waters; three-fourths of the sea is less than 500 feet deep. In the Okinawa Trough, the depths exceed 6,500 feet.
Jun 28, 2024 In April 2024, dry natural gas production decreased year over year for the second consecutive month. Preliminary dry natural gas production in April 2024 was 3,049 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 101.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 1.0% (1.0 Bcf/d) lower in April 2024 than in April 2023 (102.6 Bcf/d); despite this decrease, dry natural gas production was the second highest for the month since 1973, when we began tracking dry production. Gross withdrawals also decreased from April 2023.
Jun 28, 2024 Monthly data on rail movements of crude oil have been updated for April 2024. Crude oil movements by rail have significantly increased during the past five years. The data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.

Jun 25, 2024 Chokepoints are narrow channels along widely used global sea routes that are critical to global energy security. The seven chokepoints highlighted in this report and the Cape of Good Hope are part of major trade routes for global seaborne oil transportation. Disruptions to these routes could affect oil prices and add thousands of miles of transit in alternative routes.
