State Energy Profiles: New Data for June and July 2014

Sep 18, 2014
New monthly data are available for electricity, petroleum, and natural gas series.

East China Sea Regional Analysis Brief

Sep 17, 2014
The East China Sea is a semi-closed sea bordered by the Yellow Sea to the north, the South China Sea and Taiwan to the south, Japan's Ryukyu and Kyushu islands to the east and the Chinese mainland to the west. Studies identifying potentially abundant oil and natural gas deposits have made the sea a source of contention between Japan and China, the two largest energy consumers in Asia. Both countries are interested in extracting hydrocarbon resources, particularly natural gas, from the East China Sea to help meet domestic demand. However, the unresolved territorial disputes and limited evidence thus far of hydrocarbon reserves make it unlikely that the region will become a major new source of hydrocarbon production.

Saudi Arabia Country Analysis Brief

Sep 10, 2014
Saudi Arabia is the largest exporter and the second-largest producer of total petroleum liquids in the world. Total petroleum liquids production declined in 2013, the first decline since 2009, due to a decrease in crude oil production. Saudi Arabia has the fifth-largest natural gas reserves, but natural gas production remains limited. The country has plans to not only increase natural gas production in the future but to also diversify its power generation sources.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Sep 9, 2014
Driven in large part by falling crude oil prices, U.S. regular gasoline retail prices fell to an average of $3.49/per gallon (gal) in August, 12 cents below the July average and 21 cents below the average in June.

Short-Term Energy Outlook - Market Prices and Uncertainty Report

Sep 9, 2014
International crude oil prices fell in August and remain near their lowest levels of 2014. The North Sea Brent front month futures price settled at $101.83/barrel on September 4, a decrease of $3.01/barrel from August 1.

International Energy Outlook 2014

Sep 9, 2014
World petroleum and other liquid fuels consumption will increase 38% by 2040, spurred by increased demand in the developing Asia and Middle East, according to projections in International Energy Outlook 2014 (IEO2014), released today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Drilling Productivity Report

Sep 8, 2014
The Utica Region in eastern Ohio, one of the fastest growing natural gas production areas in the United States, has been added to the Drilling Productivity Report (DPR). Total natural gas production in the Utica Region, which includes production from the Utica and Point Pleasant formations as well as legacy production from conventional reservoirs, has increased from 155 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) in January 2012 to an estimated 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in October 2014.

Sudan and South Sudan Country Analysis Brief

Sep 3, 2014
South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in July 2011. Most of the oil production capacity is now in South Sudan, but the country is landlocked and remains dependent on Sudan because it must use Sudan's export pipelines and port. Disagreements over oil revenue sharing and armed conflict have curtailed oil production in both countries over the past few years. For the first half of 2014, Sudan and South Sudan's oil production averaged 260,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), down from almost 490,000 bbl/d in 2010.

Petroleum Marketing Monthly

Sep 2, 2014
The September 2014 Petroleum Marketing Monthly, with data through June 2014, presents monthly and annual price and volume statistics covering crude oil and refined products sales in the United States. The preliminary June data show crude oil prices rising in all sales categories. Refiner gasoline prices increased, while No. 2 distillate prices continued to decline. U.S-level Prime Supplier data show gasoline sales fell slightly month-on-month, while ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel sales continued to rise.

Monthly Natural Gas Gross Production Report

Aug 29, 2014
Monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on Form EIA-914 (Monthly Natural Gas Production Report) for Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, other states and Lower 48 states. Alaska data are from the state of Alaska and included to obtain a U.S. total.

Natural Gas Monthly

Aug 29, 2014
The August Natural Gas Monthly, with data through June 2014, has been released. • Preliminary dry gas production for June 2014 of 2,106 billion cubic feet (Bcf) or 70.2 Bcf/day. This is the fourth consecutive month where the Bcf/day dry production value set the record for the highest ever for any month. June’s 70.2 Bcf/day is a slight increase from May’s revised 69.9 Bcf/day. • Preliminary total consumption for June 2014 is 1,745 Bcf or 58.2 Bcf per day, remaining steady from May. This represents an increase of less than 1% from last June’s 1,732 Bcf or 57.7 Bcf/day, and is the second highest on record for the month. • Deliveries to residential consumers for June 2014 (125 Bcf or 4.2 Bcf/day) are the second lowest on record for the month; commercial deliveries (140 Bcf or 4.7 Bcf/day) are the highest for June since 2002; industrial deliveries (586 Bcf or 19.5 Bcf/day) are also the highest for the month since 2002; and electric power deliveries for June (719 Bcf or 24.0 Bcf/day) are down 2% from June 2013.

The Availability and Price of Petroleum and Petroleum Products Produced in Countries Other Than Iran

Aug 28, 2014
The 16th in a series of reports required by section 1245 (d) (4) (A) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, which requires that, not later than 60 days from enactment and every 60 days thereafter, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) “submit to Congress a report on the availability and price of petroleum and petroleum products produced in countries other than Iran in the 60-day period preceding the submission of the report.”

Australia Country Analysis Brief

Aug 28, 2014
Australia, rich in energy commodities, has become one of the world’s top producers and exporters of fossil fuels and uranium. The country’s stable political environment, relatively transparent regulatory structure, substantial hydrocarbon reserves, and its proximity to Asian markets make it an attractive location for investment in energy production and mining. Although, more recently, Australia’s energy projects have faced escalating costs, creating challenges to companies developing hydrocarbon resources there.

Monthly Energy Review

Aug 27, 2014
EIA's most comprehensive report on recent integrated energy statistics. Preliminary estimates indicate that in May 2014, U.S. primary energy consumption totaled 7.7 quadrillion Btu, a 1% increase from May 2013.
