Monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on Form EIA-914 (Monthly Natural Gas Production Report) for Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, other states and Lower 48 states. Alaska data are from the state of Alaska and included to obtain a U.S. total.

Number 20 in a series of reports required by section 1245 (d) (4) (A) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, which requires that, not later than 60 days from enactment and every 60 days thereafter, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) “submit to Congress a report on the availability and price of petroleum and petroleum products produced in countries other than Iran in the 60-day period preceding the submission of the report.”

Preliminary dry gas production for February 2015 was 2,077 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 74.2 Bcf/day, up from last month's 73.6 Bcf/day. February's production was a 6.7 Bcf/day increase from 67.5 Bcf/day in February 2014, a 9.1% rise from year to year.
Preliminary total consumption for February 2015 was 2,956 Bcf, or 105.6 Bcf/day, an increase of 6.7% from 2,757 Bcf in February 2014, or 98.5 Bcf/day.
Total consumption of dry natural gas for February 2015 increased in all sectors year to year.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration released new data today showing national and regional monthly biodiesel production for February 2015. In addition to biodiesel production, data included producer sales, producer stocks, and feedstock inputs.
South Africa Country Analysis Brief

South Africa has a large energy-intensive coal mining industry. The country has the world's ninth-largest amount of recoverable coal reserves and holds 95% of Africa's total coal reserves. South Africa exports more than 25% of its coal production, domestically consuming the remainder particularly in its electricity sector. Most of South Africa’s coal exports are sent to Asia, with India being the largest recipient. The country has limited proved reserves of oil and natural gas.

These data measure primary petroleum product deliveries into the states where they are locally marketed and consumed.

New annual data for 2013 are also available for coal and natural gas consumption and expenditures, and new 2012 data are provided for carbon dioxide emissions.

EIA works with technology experts to project the cost and efficiency of future HVAC, lighting, and other major end-use equipment rather than developing residential and commercial technology projections in-house. These reports have always been available by request. By providing the reports online, EIA is increasing transparency for some of the most important assumptions used for our AEO projections of buildings energy demand.
Annual Energy Outlook 2015

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) today released the Annual Energy Outlook 2015 (AEO2015), which in addition to the Reference case, includes 5 alternative cases (Low and High Economic Growth, Low and High Oil Price, and High Oil and Gas Resource) which show how different assumptions regarding market, policy, and technology drivers affect projections of energy production, consumption, technology, and market trends and the direction they may take in the future. The AEO2015 is a shorter edition of the AEO. To focus more resources on rapidly changing energy markets and the ways in which they might evolve over the next few years, EIA has revised the schedule and approach for production of the AEO. Starting with AEO2015, EIA is adopting a two-year release cycle for the AEO, with a full edition of the AEO produced in alternating years and a shorter edition in the other years.

EIA’s monthly Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) has been released. The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key fields.

North Sea Brent crude oil prices averaged $58/barrel (bbl) in February, an increase of $10/bbl from the January average, and the first monthly average price increase since June 2014. The price increase reflects news of falling U.S. crude oil rig counts and announced reductions in capital expenditures by major oil companies, along with lower-than-expected Iraqi crude oil exports.

Over the past month, international crude oil prices recorded the first month-over-month increase since June 2014. The North Sea Brent front month futures price settled at $60.48/bbl on March 5, an increase of $5.73/bbl from February 2. In the U.S. market, domestic crude oil prices continued to lag behind international benchmarks. The front month West Texas Intermediate (WTI) contract price settled at $50.76/bbl on March 5, $1.19/bbl higher than at the start of February.
Technical options for processing additional light tight oil volumes within the United States

This report examines technical options for processing additional LTO volumes within the United States. Domestic processing of additional LTO would enable an increase in petroleum product exports from the United States, already the world’s largest net exporter of petroleum products. Unlike crude oil, products are not subject to export limitations or licensing requirements. While this is one possible approach to absorbing higher domestic LTO production in the absence of a relaxation of current limitations on crude exports, domestic LTO would have to be priced at a level required to encourage additional LTO runs at existing refinery units, debottlenecking, or possible additions of processing capacity.
