Oct 31, 2016
• In August 2016, for the sixth consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year-to-year from the same month in 2015. Preliminary dry natural gas production for August 2016 was 2,239 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 72.2 Bcf/day. This was a 2.0 Bcf/day (2.7%) decrease from the August 2015 level of 74.3 Bcf/day. • Preliminary dry natural gas consumption for August 2016 was 2,225 Bcf, or 71.8 Bcf/day. This was an increase of 8.0%, or 5.3 Bcf/day, from the 2,061 Bcf consumed in August 2015. • Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in August increased in three of the four consuming sectors, with the exception being residential deliveries, which decreased year-to-year. Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in August 2016 were as follows: o Residential deliveries in August 2016 were 101.7 Bcf, or 3.28 Bcf/day, down 1.1% from 3.32 Bcf/day in August 2015. o Commercial deliveries were 139 Bcf, or 4.5 Bcf/day, up 3.0% from 4.4 Bcf/day in August 2015. o Industrial deliveries were 633 Bcf, or 20.4 Bcf/day, up 5.3% from 19.4 Bcf/day in August 2015. Industrial deliveries were the highest for the month since EIA began tracking them in 2001. o Electric power deliveries were 1,162 Bcf, or 37.5 Bcf/day, up 12.3% from 33.4 Bcf/day in August 2015. Electric power deliveries were the highest for any month since EIA began tracking them in 2001.
