Venezuela Country Analysis Brief

Nov 25, 2015
Venezuela contains some of the largest oil and natural gas proved reserves in the world and consistently ranks as one of the world’s top suppliers of crude oil to the United States. As a founding member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Venezuela is an important player in the global oil market. Although oil production has declined since its peak in the late 1990s, Venezuela has been among the largest oil exporters in the world.

U.S. Energy-Related Carbon Dioxide Emissions, 2014

Nov 23, 2015
U.S. Energy Information Administration releases its online analysis of 2012 energy-related carbon dioxide emissions today. It indicates U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption of fossil fuels were 5,290 million metric tons carbon dioxide in 2012, a decrease of almost 4 percent from the 2011 level. Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions have declined in five of the last seven years and are the lowest they have been since 1994.

U.S. Crude Oil and Natural Gas Proved Reserves

Nov 23, 2015
U.S. crude oil proved reserves increased in 2014 for the sixth year in a row with a net addition of 3.4 billion barrels of proved oil reserves (a 9% increase), according to U.S. Crude Oil and Natural Gas Proved Reserves, 2014, released today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). U.S. natural gas proved reserves increased 10% in 2014, raising the U.S. total to a record 388.8 trillion cubic feet.

Libya Country Analysis Brief

Nov 19, 2015
Libya holds the largest amount of proved crude oil reserves in Africa and the fifth-largest amount of proved natural gas reserves on the continent. Libya’s hydrocarbon production and exports have been substantially affected by civil unrest over the past few years. The situation in Libya has recently become even more complicated as vital oil infrastructure has been attacked or caught in cross fire, leading to severe damage that would take months, or maybe years, to repair. Most of the country’s oil production continues to be disrupted.

Canada Country Analysis Brief

Nov 10, 2015
Canada is one of the world's five largest energy producers and is the principal source of U.S. energy imports. The country is a net exporter of most energy commodities and a significant producer of crude oil and other liquids from oil sands, natural gas, and hydroelectricity. Energy exports to the United States account for the vast majority of Canada's total energy exports.

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) front month futures price settled at $45.20/b on November 5, rising by 46 cents/b over the same time.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Nov 10, 2015
EIA forecasts that Brent crude oil prices will average $54/b in 2015 and $56/b in 2016. The 2015 forecast price is unchanged from last month's STEO, and the 2016 forecast price is $2/b lower. Forecast West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices average $4/b lower than the Brent price in 2015 and $5/b lower in 2016. The current values of futures and options contracts for February 2016 delivery (Market Prices and Uncertainty Report) suggest the market expects WTI prices to range from $35/b to $66/b (at the 95% confidence interval) in February 2016.

Drilling Productivity Report

Nov 9, 2015
EIA’s monthly Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) has been released. The DPR takes a fresh look at oil and natural gas production, starting with an assessment of how and where drilling for hydrocarbons is taking place. It uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key fields.
