OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

May 15, 2017
For 2016, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) earned about $433 billion in net oil export revenues (unadjusted for inflation). This represents a 15% decline from the $509 billion earned in 2015, mainly as a result of the fall in average annual crude oil prices during the year, and to a lesser extent to decreases in the level of OPEC net oil exports. This revenue total was the lowest earnings for OPEC since 2004.

Kazakhstan Country Analysis Brief

May 10, 2017
Kazakhstan is a major oil producer. The country’s estimated total petroleum and other liquids production was 1.698 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2016. Oil field development in Kazakhstan reached two milestones in 2016. In October 2016, Kashagan field resumed production after years of delays. In July 2016, the Tengizchevroil consortium made a final investment decision on a project to increase liquids production at the Tengiz field by about 260,000 b/d.

Analysis and Representation of Miscellaneous Electric Loads in NEMS

May 10, 2017
Miscellaneous Electric Loads (MELs) comprise a growing portion of delivered energy consumption in residential and commercial buildings. Miscellaneous end uses—including televisions, personal computers, security systems, data center servers, and many other devices—have continued to penetrate into building-related market segments. Part of this proliferation of devices and equipment can be attributed to increased service demand for entertainment, computing, and convenience appliances.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

May 9, 2017
North Sea Brent crude oil spot prices averaged $52 per barrel (b) in April, $1/b higher than the March average and the fifth consecutive month that Brent crude oil spot prices averaged between $50/b and $55/b. EIA forecasts Brent prices to average $53/b in 2017 and $57/b in 2018. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices are forecast to average $2/b less than Brent prices in both 2017 and 2018.

Energy flows and primary energy consumption sources-and-sectors chart for 2016

May 2, 2017
Five energy flow diagrams with data for 2016 show U.S. production and consumption of total energy, petroleum, natural gas, coal, and electricity. EIA’s sources-and-sectors chart shows the distribution, by both energy source and sector, of the 97 quadrillion Btu of U.S. primary energy consumed in 2016.

Petroleum Marketing Monthly

May 1, 2017
The May 2017 Petroleum Marketing Monthly (PMM), with data through February 2017, presents monthly and annual price and volume statistics covering crude oil and refined products sales in the United States. In this issue of the PMM, preliminary February 2017 data show crude oil prices rose for the third month in a row, while prices for refined products show mixed trends. With the exception of propane, U.S.-level Prime Supplier data show sales for the major surveyed products increased from January levels.

Natural Gas Monthly

Apr 28, 2017
In February 2017, for the twelfth consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year-to-year from the same month a year ago. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in February 2017 was 2,019 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 72.1 Bcf/day. This level was a 5.2 Bcf/day (6.7%) decrease from the February 2016 level of 77.3 Bcf/day.

Malaysia Country Analysis Brief

Apr 26, 2017
Malaysia is a significant oil and natural gas producer in Asia and is strategically located amid important routes for seaborne energy trade. Malaysia is the world’s third-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas and the second-largest oil and natural gas producer in Southeast Asia. Rising domestic and regional energy demand is prompting Malaysia to invest in upstream oil and natural gas projects and in downstream infrastructure such as oil and gas import terminals, storage facilities, and refining capacity to ensure adequate energy supply.
