June Natural Gas Monthly, containing data for April 2026

  • In April 2026, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the 13th straight month. Preliminary dry natural gas production in April 2026 was 3,328 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 110.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 3.8% (4.0 Bcf/d) higher in April 2026 than in April 2025 (106.9 Bcf/d). Daily dry natural gas production was the highest for the month of April, and the second highest for any month, since 1973, the earliest year in this dataset. Gross withdrawals also increased from April 2025:
    • Gross withdrawals: 4,059 Bcf for the month, or 135.3 Bcf/d
      • A 3.9% increase compared with April 2025 (130.2 Bcf/d)
      • Highest daily rate for the month of April since 1980, the earliest year in this dataset
  • Estimated natural gas consumption in April 2026 was 2,389 Bcf, or 79.6 Bcf/d
    • A 0.5% increase compared with April 2025 (79.2 Bcf/d)
  • The year-over-year average daily rate of dry natural gas consumption in April 2026 decreased in two of the four consuming sectors and increased in the other two. Natural gas deliveries by consuming sector in April 2026 were:
    • Residential deliveries: 281 Bcf for the month, or 9.4 Bcf/d
      • A 13.8% decrease compared with April 2025 (10.9 Bcf/d)
      • Lowest rate of natural gas residential deliveries for the month of April since 2017
    • Commercial deliveries: 241 Bcf for the month, or 8.0 Bcf/d
      • An 8.0% decrease compared with April 2025 (8.7 Bcf/d)
      • Lowest rate of natural gas commercial deliveries for the month of April since 2020
    • Industrial deliveries: 699 Bcf for the month, or 23.3 Bcf/d
      • A 0.3% increase compared with April 2025 (23.2 Bcf/d)
    • Electric power deliveries: 898 Bcf for the month, or 29.9 Bcf/d
      • An 8.2% increase compared with April 2025 (27.7 Bcf/d)
      • Highest rate of natural gas electric power deliveries for the month of April since 2001, the earliest year in this dataset
  • Net natural gas exports (exports minus imports) were 591 Bcf, or 19.7 Bcf/d, in April 2026. This net export daily volume was the highest for the month of April since we began tracking net trade in 1973. The United States exported 3.7 times more natural gas than it imported in April 2026 as natural gas imports decreased while exports increased year over year:
    • Total natural gas imports: 217 Bcf for the month, or 7.2 Bcf/d
      • An 8.1% decrease compared with April 2025 (7.9 Bcf/d)
      • Lowest daily rate of natural gas imports for the month of April since 2021
    • Total natural gas exports: 808 Bcf for the month, or 26.9 Bcf/d
      • An 11.4% increase compared with April 2025 (24.2 Bcf/d)
      • Highest daily rate of natural gas exports for the month of April since we began tracking them in 1973
      • Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports: The daily rate of LNG exports in April 2026 was 20.1% higher than the daily rate in April 2025, the highest rate for the month of April since we began tracking LNG exports in 1997. In April 2026, the United States exported 17.9 Bcf/d of LNG to 35 countries.
