The leading operations, in terms of net income, for the U.S. majors during the third quarter of 2005 were domestic oil and natural gas production, foreign oil and natural gas production, and domestic refining/marketing, which generated contributions to net income of $8.5 billion, $7.6 billion, and $7.0 billion, respectively. This report utilizes company press release data for the July through September time period of 2004 and 2005.

Adjusted Estimates of Texas Natural Gas Production

Nov 9, 2005
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) is revising its preliminary estimates of monthly natural gas production in Texas for 2004 and 2005 and adjusting the estimates to correctly account for carbon dioxide (CO2) production. Revisions for 2004 were made using more current 2004 data now available from the Texas Railroad Commission. Revisions for 2005 were made using the new EIA-914, ¿Natural Gas Monthly Production Report,¿ survey data. Normally, EIA would wait until publication of the Natural Gas Annual (NGA) before revising the 2004 data, but the adjustments for CO2 are large enough to warrant making the changes at this time. The result of these changes to production estimates in Texas, the largest producing state, is that natural gas production during 2004 and the first half of 2005 was growing, not declining.
