This issue provides detailed quarterly data for July-September 2005 and aggregated quarterly historical data for 1999 through the third quarter 2005 on the U.S. coal industry. Information includes: U.S. coal production, distribution, exports, imports, receipts, prices, consumption, stocks, and quality; and U.S. coke production, consumption, distribution, imports, and exports. All data for 2004 and prior years are final; all data for 2005 are preliminary. The "Quarterly Coal Report" is only available in electronic format on the EIA's Coal page. Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions. Preliminary statistics show U.S. total energy production in September 2005 down 5% compared with September 2004; total energy consumption down 1%; and total energy net imports up 4%. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the October electricity data. EIA-176 Query System 2004

The EIA-176 Query System is a Windows-based system which runs under Windows operating systems 95, 98, 2000, NT - 4.0 Service Pack 3 or later. It provides a method of extracting and using the company level data filed on the Form EIA-176, and saving the query results in various media and formats.

Oil Markets After the Hurricanes: Reversion to the Mean or Return to Recent Trend?

This presentation focuses on the impacts Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma will have on oil markets (supply, demand, stocks, and imports) in the fourth quarter of 2005 and into 2006. The presentation looks examines whether oil markets are likely to return to much lower prices (the long term average) or continue the trend of high oil prices seen over the last couple of years.

Annual Energy Outlook 2006 (Early Release)

The AEO2006 presents long-term projections of energy supply, demand, and prices through 2030, which are based on results from EIA¿s National Energy Modeling System (NEMS). The AEO2006 Early Release only includes the reference case. The full publication, including complete documentation and over 30 additional cases examining energy markets will be released in February 2006.

State-level natural gas consumption, price, and expenditure data through 2003 by sector (residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, and electric power) are now available at http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/states/_seds_updates.html. Natural gas consumption is provided in physical units (billion cubic feet) and British thermal units (Btu); prices in nominal dollars per million Btu; and expenditures in million nominal dollars.

Financial News for Independent Energy Companies

Today the Energy Information Administration released the Financial News for Independent Energy companies for July through September 2005. The report reviews recent trends in the financial performance of independent energy companies, which are typically smaller than the majors and do not have integrated production/refining operations. All three types of energy companies included in this report -- independent oil and natural gas producers, oil field service companies, and refiner/marketers -- had increased income over the year-ago quarter, as crude oil prices, natural gas prices, and gross refining margins all increased. The next update, for October through December 2005, will be released in March 2006.

U.S. Natural Gas Imports and Exports: 2004

This report looks at recent trends in U.S. international trade of natural gas. It focuses on natural gas trade by pipeline to Mexico and Canada, and recent developments in U.S. participation in global LNG trade as well as longer-term trends. The article also discusses the amount of additional LNG import capacity proposed for development during the next several years. A special appendix to this report contains a set of tables with extensive historical data on U.S. natural gas imports and exports. Information in this appendix includes volumes and prices by source country and border crossing.
