South Korea Country Analysis Brief

South Korea was the worlds tenth largest energy consumer in 2007, and with its lack of domestic reserves, Korea is one of the top energy importers in the world. The country is the fifth largest importer of crude oil and the second largest importer of both coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG). South Korea has no international oil or natural gas pipelines, and relies exclusively on tanker shipments of LNG and crude oil.

Monthly Biodiesel Production Report

Annual Coal Report (ACR) - 2009

Provides information about U.S. coal production, number of mines, prices, productivity, employment, productive capacity, and recoverable reserves to a wide audience, including Congress, Federal and State agencies, the coal industry, and the general public. U.S. coal production, employment, and productivity are based on the U.S. Department of Labors Mine Safety and Health Administrations Form 7000-2, "Quarterly Mine Employment and Coal Production Report. Prices, recoverable reserves, and productive capacity are based on EIAs annual survey form, EIA-7A, Coal Production Report. This is a preliminary release of annual coal production data; the entire report will be published in December 2010. All data for 2009 and prior years are final.

Preliminary data show that U.S. primary energy consumption rose by 3%, due primarily to increases in the consumption of coal and natural gas, for the first 6 months of 2010 compared with the first 6 months of 2009. "Office Buildings" provides an in-depth look at this building type as reported in the 2003 Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey. Office buildings are the most common type of commercial building and they consumed more than 17 percent of all energy in the commercial buildings sector in 2003. This special report provides characteristics and energy consumption data by type of office building (e.g. administrative office, government office, medical office) and information on some of the types of equipment found in office buildings: heating and cooling equipment, computers, servers, printers, and photocopiers.

Financial News for Independent Energy Companies, Second Quarter 2010

The "Financial News for Independent Energy Companies, Second Quarter 2010" reviews the recent financial performance of independent U.S. energy companies, and now includes ethanol producers. The latest data presented are for April through June 2010.
Independent energy companies overall reported a large increase in income in the second quarter of 2010 (Q210) to $3.4 billion, driven largely by the rebound in oil and gas producer earnings from losses in Q209. Both revenue and earnings increased in Q210 for all three types of companies covered in this report -- independent oil and natural gas producers, oil field companies, and ethanol producers.
The next update, for July through September, will be released in December 2010.

The September issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is available on EIAs Electricity page. This issue provides early highlights of July 2010 electricity data. In July 2010, total electric power generation in the United States increased 9.2 percent compared to July 2009. Over the same period, the average U.S. retail price of electricity increased 1.3 percent.

Electric Power Monthly

The latest EPM issue (September 2010) is now available on EIA's Electricity page. Data are for June 2010, during which net generation in the United States rose by 8.0 percent. Consumption of coal for power generation also rose 10.4 percent compared to June 2009. The average retail price of electricity for June 2010 was 10.19 cents per kilowatthour (kWh), 4.0 percent higher than May 2010 when the average retail price of electricity was 9.80 cents per kWh, and 0.2 percent lower than June 2009, when the price was 10.21 cents per kWh.

This report includes world petroleum production statistics through June 2010.
