Electric Power Monthly

Jun 25, 2004
The latest issue is now available on EIA's Electricity page. The publication was redesigned beginning with the April 2003 issue to incorporate improved statistics and provide more detailed data. This report now shows tables that are separated into two main categories: Electric Power Sector (Electric Utilities and Independent Power Producers) and Combined Heat and Power Producers (Commercial and Industrial.) All data pertaining to these categories are presented together, thus providing an integrated view of the electric power industry. Additionally, the level of aggregation was also revised. The lowest level of aggregation is at the State level, with greater detail available in other Web products. Also, the publication provides rolling 12-month totals in the national overviews, as appropriate. Appendix D describes the reasoning behind the changes and their effect on electric power publications. View an on-line summary of the publication.

Natural Gas Navigator Enhancements

Jun 14, 2004
Significant changes have been made to the method of navigation and the structure of selected data categories. First, the static topics bar used in the first version has been replaced by a dynamic drop-down menu system, which allows for more descriptive labels and easier navigation between topics. Second, a few major categories have been restructured and simplified: new categories of ¿Exploration & Reserves¿ and ¿Production¿ now replace the old categories of ¿Resources & Reserves¿, ¿Exploration & Production¿, and ¿Plant Processing¿ (now under ¿Production¿). Furthermore, selected data topics have been restructured either by combining two or more topics into one or by splitting one topic into two (e.g., ¿Imports & Exports by Country¿ has been split into separate ¿Imports¿ and ¿Exports¿ topics). Because of these changes, bookmarks to many of the old Natural Gas Navigator pages will no longer work. Please contact EIA if you need assistance. Navigator is an evolving product and we welcome comments and suggestions.

Analysis of Senate Amendment 2028, the Climate Stewardship Act of 2003

Jun 7, 2004
In June 2003, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) released an analysis of the Climate Stewardship Act of 2003 (S.139) as introduced by Senators McCain and Lieberman in January 2003. S.139 would establish a cap on emissions of greenhouse gases from covered sources that would be implemented in two phases beginning in 2010 and 2016 respectively. More recently, in October 2003, Senators McCain and Lieberman proposed an amended version of the bill, SA.2028, that included the first phase of emissions reductions beginning in 2010 but removed references to a second phase of reductions beginning in 2016. On May 11, 2004, Senator Landrieu asked EIA to evaluate SA.2028. This paper responds to that request, relying on the modeling methodology, data sources, and assumptions used to analyze the original bill, as extensively documented in EIA¿s June 2003 report.
