This represents an alternative to the current publication-based approach of organizing and formatting data. Features include: downloadable spreadsheets containing complete data history; data tables which "pivot" to present different perspectives; selection boxes to easily change the product, area, process, period, and unit of measure. Initially, Petroleum Navigator is being released as a supplemental web product that will not affect existing web pages. After a brief examination period, it will be fully integrated into the Petroleum web site. Publications will still be available in the ¿Publications & Analysis¿ section.

Household Vehicles Energy Use: Latest Data & Trends (executive summary, tables, and public-use files)

Aug 29, 2005
This report provides details on the nation's energy use for household passenger travel. A primary purpose of this report is to release the latest consumer-based data on household vehicles and expenditures, derived from the U.S. Departments of Transportation's 2001 National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) and independent estimates of vehicle miles per gallon and fuel prices at that time. EIA expects to release an in-depth analytical report in the upcoming months using these data. This report also draws on data programs made available to the EIA from other Federal agencies, EIA's past Residential Transportation Energy Consumption Surveys (RTECS) and other EIA data sources and projections to assess household transport energy use from 1983 to the present time and into the near future. The data and analysis in this report center on several important intensities of use of household energy use for travel: number and type of vehicles per household; annual miles per household and per vehicle; gallons of fuel consumed and type of fuel used; prices paid for fuel and total expenditures; and fuel economy.

Monthly Flash Estimates of Electric Power Data

Aug 18, 2005
contains preliminary estimates of selected national monthly electricity data. It serves as an early release (approximately 30 days) of the more detailed Electric Power Monthly report.
Retail sales of electricity in June 2005 were 3.9 percent higher than June last year, driven by an increase of 25 percent in June cooling degree days, reflecting a relatively hot summer. Average retail prices for the period of January through June continued to run ahead of 2004 prices by 4.2 percent, with higher fuel prices a contributing factor. The rise in retail sales was matched by a 5.1 percent growth in generation from June 2004. Year-to-date retail sales are up by 1.00 percent. Nuclear generation was up in June, although year-to-date it decreased by 3.1 percent due to planned and forced outages. All fossil fuel generation showed a seasonal increase from May to June 2005. The largest increase from June 2004 was from natural gas by 17.3 percent, partly due to new capacity coming on line. Coal generation in June rose by 13.2 percent, resulting in a seasonal decrease of coal stocks by 3.7 percent. Continuing constrained shipments from Powder River Basin in Wyoming was a contributing factor.
