Annual Energy Outlook Evaluation, 2005
Jul 27, 2006
In this paper, the Office of Integrated Analysis and Forecasting (OIAF) of the Energy Information Administration (EIA) evaluates the projections published in the Annual Energy Outlook (AEO), by comparing the projections from the Annual Energy Outlook 1982 through the Annual Energy Outlook 2005 with actual historical values. A set of major consumption, production, net import, price, economic, and emissions variables are included in the evaluation, updating similar papers from previous years. These evaluations also present the reasons and rationales for significant differences.

When Do Commercial Reactors Permanently Shut Down?
Jul 26, 2006
This article provides an overview of global commercial nuclear reactor closures that have occurred since 1 January 1999. Worldwide, twenty-three reactors closed since the beginning of 1999, compared to thirty-five reactors commissioned during that period and to the 442 reactors now operating in the world. The reasons why each reactor has closed and the types of reactors closed are listed in a table.
State-Level Energy Consumption, Price, and Expenditure Data Through 2002
Jul 20, 2006
Annual energy consumption, price, and expenditure data by State through 2002 are now available at
State Data.
The State data are estimates of consumption for all energy sources by end-use sector beginning in 1960 and estimates of prices and expenditures for the same energy sources by end-use sector beginning in 1970. This release completes all State and sector totals through 2002 and includes State rankings of consumption, prices, and expenditures by major energy source and end-use sector. Data are provided in tables of PDF and HTML format, as well as in comma-separated data files that are spreadsheet and database compatible. Detailed documentation of data sources and estimation methodologies are also provided.

CBECS Public Use Microdata Files
Jul 12, 2006
The 2003 CBECS consumption and expenditures public use microdata files are now available. The first 14 files (the building characteristics) have been updated slightly; files 15 and 16, which contain the consumption and expenditures data, have been added; and the public use interface page has been redesigned.
The attachments are comma separated value (.csv) files that each contain 4,820 records. They represent commercial buildings from the 50 States and the District of Columbia. Each record corresponds to a single responding, in-scope sampled building and contains information for that building such as the building size, year constructed, types of energy used, energy-using equipment, conservation features and energy consumption and expenditures. The smallest level of geographic detail available is the Census division, of which there are nine in the U.S. No state level data are available.
Data for strip shopping center and enclosed mall buildings are not included on these files. Data for all buildings including malls will be released in late Summer 2006.

(1) The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions
are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Therefore, data in
the International Energy Annual 2004 may have been substantially revised relative to previous
editions. (2) In this edition, we have also changed the names of and the countries included in two
of our geographic regions. The region formerly named Western Europe has been renamed Europe with
the addition of the Eastern European countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Former
Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia) that were formerly included in the Eastern Europe and Former U.S.S.R. region. The Eastern Europe and Former U.S.S.R. region has been renamed Eurasia and now includes only Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Former U.S.S.R., Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Also, East Timor has been added to the countries included in the Asia and Oceania region. (See
New and
Old Geographic and Organizational Definitions.)
