Energy and Economic Impacts of H.R.5049, the Keep America competitive Global Warming Policy Act

This report responds to a May 2, 2006 request from Congressmen Tom Udall and Tom Petri asking EIA to analyze the impacts of their legislation implementing a market-based allowance program to cap greenhouse gas emissions at 2009 levels. The legislation, introduced March 29, 2006, limits the potential economic impact through the sale of additional allowances at a safety-valve price, an allowance allocation program, and allowance credits for carbon sequestration projects.

State-level annual time series on liquefied petroleum gases, aviation gasoline, jet fuel, and lubricants consumption, prices, and expenditures through 2004 are now available on the Web at State Data. The estimates are provided by sector (residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation) and total. Consumption estimates begin in 1960 and are provided in thousand barrels and British thermal units (Btu) for all sources and sectors; price and expenditure estimates begin in 1970 and are in nominal dollars per million Btu and million nominal dollars, respectively.

Financial News for Independent Energy Companies 2nd Quarter 2006

Today the Energy Information Administration released the Financial News for Independent Energy Companies 2nd Quarter 2006. The report reviews recent trends in the financial performance of independent energy companies, which are typically smaller than the majors and do not have integrated production/refining operations. All three types of energy companies included in this report, independent oil and natural gas producers, oil field service companies, and refiner/marketers, had substantial increases in earnings over the year-ago quarter. The next update, for July through September 2006, will be released in November 2006.

Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions. From January through May of 2006, the industrial sector consumed 32 percent of all energy consumed in the United States, followed by the transportation sector (28 percent), the residential sector (22 percent), and the commercial sector (18 percent). See "What's New" in the Monthly Energy Review for a record of changes.

Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE)

The August, 2006 issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is now available on EIA¿s Electricity Publications page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the June, 2006 electricity data. State Nuclear Profiles

The following States have been updated in the enhanced format: California, Iowa, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont. The South Carolina profile includes a feature on disposal of low-level waste at the Barnwell facility, one of only two such facilities in the Nation. The Tennessee profile includes a feature on computers and the nuclear industry.

Alternatives to Traditional Transportation Fuels 2005

In 2005, original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket conversion facilities supplied more than 890,000 alternative fueled vehicles (AFVs) to be used on U.S. highways. Ethanol vehicles accounted for more than 80% of all AFVs and hybrid vehicles made available. Data tables reflect made available and planned to be made available AFV usage for 2005 and 2006 respectively.

Energy Use in Manufacturing

The Energy Consumption Division has a follow-up of the "Energy Use in Manufacturing". This report addresses both changes in manufacturing energy consumption and characteristics of the manufacturing economy related to energy consumption between 1998 and 2002. In addition, special sections on fuel switching capacity and energy-management activities are also featured in this report.
