Monthly Flash Estimate

The July, 2007 issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is now available on EIAs Electricity Publications page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the May, 2007 electricity data. Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions. Over the first half of 2007, the average number of rotary rigs in operation in the United States (onshore and offshore) was up 11 percent compared with the first half of 2006 and up 33 percent compared with the first half of 2005; the total number of wells drilled was up 12 percent and 34 percent, respectively; and the total footage drilled was up 12 percent and 38 percent, respectively.

Important Notes: (1) The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Therefore, data in the International Energy Annual 2005 may have been substantially revised relative to previous editions. (2) In this edition, we have also moved Cyprus from our Middle East region to our Europe region, changed the name of Serbia and Montenegro to Former Serbia and Montenegro, and added the countries of Montenegro and Serbia to our Europe region. Respondents are operators of all operating and idle petroleum refineries (including new refineries under construction) and refineries shut down during the previous year, located in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and other U.S. possessions.

Also included are financial indicators related to energy; international energy; environmental indicators; and data unit conversions. Key long-term trends are graphically illustrated in a special section called "Energy Perspectives."

Duration of power outages in Puerto Rico not caused by major events increased 19% in 2025  ›

In 2025, customers in Puerto Rico experienced an average of 36 hours of power interruptions that were not caused by major events such as hurricanes, 19% more than in 2024. On average, between 2021 and 2025, Puerto Rican customers experience 29 hours of power loss each year. By comparison, electricity customers in the mainland United States generally experience about two hours of electricity interruptions per year without major events. More
