International Petroleum Monthly - October 2006

Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions. Preliminary statistics comparing the first three quarters of 2006 versus the first three quarters of 2005 show that U.S. crude oil production was down 4 percent; U.S. petroleum imports were up 1 percent; and U.S. petroleum products supplied, which is a measure of consumption, was down 1 percent. See "What's New" in the Monthly Energy Review for a record of changes.

State Energy Consumption, Price, and Expenditure Estimates (SEDS)

Comprehensive annual State-level energy consumption, price, and expenditure statistics through 2003 are now available at State Energy Consumption, Price, and Expenditure Estimates (SEDS). The State data are estimates of consumption for all energy sources by end-use sector beginning in 1960 and estimates of prices and expenditures for the same energy sources by end-use sector beginning in 1970. This release completes all State and sector totals through 2003 and includes State rankings of consumption, prices, and expenditures by major energy source and end-use sector. Data are provided in tables of PDF and HTML format, as well as in comma-separated data files that are spreadsheet and database compatible. Detailed documentation of data sources and estimation methodologies are also provided.

Annual Power Plant and Combined Heat and Power Plant Database Released

The final 2005 database for the Form EIA-906, "Power Plant Report," and Form EIA-920, "Combined Heat and Power Plant Report," is now available on the EIA's Electricity page in Excel format. The file contains data on net generation, fuel consumption, and fossil fuel stocks for electric power plants and combined heat and power plants in the United States. Additionally, the 2005 Nonutility Source and Disposition database (energy sources from generation and incoming energy and disposition from station use, direct use, sales for resale, retail sales, and other use) is released. The final 2005 data replaces the preliminary 2005 data previously published.

Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE)

The October, 2006 issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is now available on EIA¿s Electricity Publications page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the August, 2006 electricity data. Annual Electric Generator Database

The Final 2005 database for the Form EIA-860, ¿Annual Electric Generator Report,¿ is now available on EIA¿s Electricity page. The data file contains generator specific information for existing and proposed electric utility and nonutility plants. Data on prime mover, energy sources, nameplate capacity, net summer capacity, net winter capacity, and date of initial operation are included. The data file also contains information about the fuel switching and co-firing ability of the generators.

U.S. Underground Natural Gas Storage Developments: 1998-2005

This report examines the current status of the underground natural gas storage sector in the United States and how it has changed since 1998, particularly in regards to deliverability from storage, working gas capacity, ownership, and operational capabilities. It also includes a discussion and an analysis of underground natural gas storage expansions in 2005 and an examination of storage development proposed for the next several years.
