Changes to Table 26. "Production of Crude Oil by PAD District and State":
Revised State-level estimates from January 2010 to December 2011 are now reported in the Petroleum Navigator. State estimates will be revised monthly going back as far as the last published Petroleum Supply Annual. Once a year with the release of the Petroleum Supply Annual, EIA will revise up to 10 years of historical production estimates in the Petroleum Navigator. Current State-level estimates are now included in Table 26, in addition to current U.S. and PAD District sums. State offshore production for Louisiana, Texas, Alaska, and California, which are included in the State totals, are no longer reported separately in a "State Offshore Production" category. Previously, State-level values lagged 2 months behind the U.S. and PAD District values. Beginning with the February publication, they were on the same cycle. The adjustments lines that balanced the PAD District and Alaska totals with State-level and, for Alaska, sub-State-level values are no longer needed because all of the values are on the same cycle. This is in contrast to the prior practice of releasing the State-level and sub_State-level values two month after the PAD District and Alaska values.

Petroleum Marketing Monthly

Apr 2, 2012
Monthly sales data for January 2012 show small to moderate changes in crude oil prices, while refiner prices for many finished petroleum products experienced firm increases from December levels. With the exception of gasoline, data covering Prime Supplier sales of petroleum products sold for local consumption show increased sales of the major refined products at the aggregate U.S. level.

Sudan and South Sudan Country Analysis Brief

Mar 19, 2012
Although Sudan and South Sudan are now separate countries, they are negotiating an oil transit fee, since about three-quarters of oil production originates from South Sudan, while the entire pipeline, refining, and export infrastructure is in Sudan. At the end of January, as a result of an impasse over a transit fee and other issues, South Sudan shut in all of its oil production.

Who are the major players supplying the world oil market?

Mar 15, 2012
The world oil market is complicated. Companies are often thought of as the primary actors in this market, but governments play a large role as well. To answer this question, we'll explore the role oil companies and governments play in the world oil market and their interactions.

How can we compare or add up our energy consumption?

Mar 15, 2012
To compare or aggregate energy consumption across different energy sources like oil, natural gas, and electricity, we must use a common unit of measure. This is similar to calculating your food energy intake by adding up the calories in whatever you eat.

Sales of Fossil Fuels Produced from Federal and Indian Lands, FY 2003 through FY 2011

Mar 14, 2012
Since 2003 changes in offshore production from the Federal Outer Continental Shelf have been the main driver of changes in crude oil production from Federal and Indian lands, according to data from the Office of Natural Resource Revenues at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Total crude oil sales from Federal and Indian lands increased from 642 million barrels in FY 2009 to 739 million barrels in FY 2010, but decreased to 646 million barrels in FY 2011. Natural gas production from Federal and Indian lands has declined every year since 2003, while coal production has remained fairly steady.

Last year’s U.S.-Canada energy trade was valued around $150 billion ›

The value of energy trade between the United States and Canada remained steady in 2024 at an estimated $151 billion compared with $154 billion in 2023, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Energy trade value is the total value of energy imports and exports between two countries and is driven by commodity volumes and prices. Most of the U.S.-Canada trade value is U.S. energy imports from Canada—$124 billion in 2024—rather than from U.S. energy exports to Canada, which totaled $27 billion last year. More
