Biography
Pushpal Mukhopadhyay joined EIA in 2021 as a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician in the Office of Statistical Methods and Research. In this role, Pushpal and his team develop and implement innovative statistical approaches for frame construction, data quality assessment, statistical editing and imputation, data privacy, and the integration of survey data with third party sources. These developments strengthen statistical methodologies across EIA’s full survey portfolio, spanning petroleum, natural gas, electricity, renewables, uranium, and energy consumption.
Throughout Pushpal’s career, he has made significant, lasting contributions to survey statistics and statistical computing. Before joining EIA, Pushpal served as a Principal Research Statistician Developer in the Research and Development division at SAS, where he developed and maintained advanced statistical procedures for the analysis of complex survey data—tools widely used by national statistical offices, U.S. federal agencies, and research organizations around the world.
Pushpal holds a PhD in statistics from Iowa State University and an MS degree in mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
