We updated Analyses and Quick Facts for:
Jun 15, 2023 This site contains spreadsheets with wholesale electricity and natural gas data from eight major trading hubs that cover most regions of the United States. The data are through June 13, 2023 and are republished, with permission, from the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).
Jun 15, 2023 The final set of consumption and expenditures tables are now available. These tables include estimates of energy consumption and expenditures by end use (for example, air conditioning and water heating). This final data release also includes a final version of the public-use microdata file containing consumption, expenditures, and end-use data as well as additional methodology documentation.
Jun 13, 2023 Statistical data update for 2022 on purchases, prices, contracts, enrichment services, sales, and inventories for the U.S. uranium production industry.
Jun 12, 2023 The Drilling Productivity Report has been updated with the latest charts and methodology. This report uses recent data on the total number of drilling rigs in operation along with estimates of drilling productivity and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells to provide estimated changes in oil and natural gas production for seven key regions.
Jun 8, 2023 Gulf South Pipeline Company, LLC, (Gulf South) issued a 30-day noncritical notice reporting a reclassification of 13.54 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working natural gas storage (the amount of natural gas in storage that is available for withdrawal) to base gas at the Bistineau Gas Storage facility in Louisiana as of June 1, 2023. These working natural gas volumes were formerly utilized for interruptible storage service (ISS). Gulf South confirmed in the filing that the reclassification did not affect any current Gulf South customers.
Jun 6, 2023 Global oil markets. Following the OPEC+ announcement on June 4 to extend crude oil production cuts through 2024, we forecast global oil inventories to fall slightly in each of the next five quarters. We expect these draws will put some upward pressure on crude oil prices, notably in late-2023 and early-2024. We forecast the Brent crude oil spot price will average $79 per barrel (b) in the second half of 2023 (2H23) and $84/b in 2024.

The June 2023 Petroleum Marketing Monthly (PMM), with data through March 2023 presents monthly and annual price and volume statistics for crude oil sales in the United States. In this addition of the PMM, final monthly data and annual averages for 2022 are published in tables 18-27.
As of May 2023, collection and publication of refiner and prime supplier petroleum products sales data has been officially suspended.
EIA has posted the 2022 early release data for the Annual Electric Generator Report from Form EIA-860.
We posted these data early to provide our customers with immediate access to individual plant and generator data. The data have not been fully edited and are inappropriate for aggregation, such as to state or national totals. In some cases, we have excluded data for some plants and generators from this early release pending further data validation. We will release final, complete, and fully edited data later in 2023.

May 31, 2023 Statistical data update for 2022 on drilling, mining, production, shipments, sales, facilities, employment, expenditures, and reserve estimates in the U.S. uranium production industry.
May 31, 2023 In March 2023, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the month for the 24th consecutive month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in March 2023 was 3,171 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 102.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). This level was 7.2% (6.9 Bcf/d) higher than March 2022 (95.4 Bcf/d) and the highest level for any month since 1973, when we began tracking dry natural gas production. Gross withdrawals also increased from March 2022.
May 31, 2023 Working and net available shell storage capacity as of March 31, 2023 is the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) report containing annual storage capacity data. It includes three tables detailing working and net available shell storage capacity by facility type, product, and PAD District as of March 31.
May 31, 2023 Monthly data on rail movements of crude oil have been updated for March 2023. Crude oil movements by rail have significantly increased during the past five years. The data on crude-by-rail (CBR) movements are also fully integrated with EIA’s existing monthly petroleum supply statistics, which already include crude oil movements by pipeline, tanker, and barge.
May 31, 2023 These monthly production estimates are based on data from Form EIA-914, Monthly Crude Oil, Lease Condensate, and Natural Gas Production Report.

May 25, 2023 The Monthly Energy Review is our comprehensive report on recent and historical energy statistics. According to our May 2023 report, preliminary estimates indicate that total carbon dioxide emissions from U.S. consumption of energy (excluding biomass) equaled 389 million metric tons in February 2023, an 8% decrease from February 2022. Of this total, petroleum accounted for 44%, natural gas for 41%, and coal for 14%.
May 24, 2023 Data in the May 2023 Electric Power Monthly (EPM) are for March 2023, during which net generation in the United States rose 1.6% from the March 2022 level. Consumption of natural gas for power generation was up 18.7% compared to March 2022. The average residential retail price of electricity was up 9.5% from the March 2022 level.
May 24, 2023 This month’s Electric Monthly Update contains data for March 2023 and a feature article about how the capacity market price at PJM (a regional transmission organization) continued to fall.
May 23, 2023 EIA presents an alternative case to the Annual Energy Outlook 2023 (AEO2023) that assumes no new interstate natural gas pipelines are built between 2024 and 2050. This Issues in Focus article examines how these limitations to natural gas pipeline capacity affect natural gas production, consumption, prices, and trade at the national and regional levels.
As U.S. crude oil and natural gas production have increased, so has the volume of production declines from existing wells. To offset the increasing declines, operators today must bring on new wells to sustain or increase production levels. More ›
