Record Output in 2004

According to preliminary data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the U.S. nuclear industry generated 788,556 million kilowatt hours of electricity in 2004, a new U.S. (and international record). This total includes a flash estimate for nuclear generation in December 2004. The nuclear generation data table reports the monthly output for each reactor, by State.

Request for Comments on Natural Gas Surveys

EIA issued a Federal Register notice requesting comments on proposed revisions and a three-year extension of approval for its natural gas surveys. Comments should be submitted by May 6, 2005.

EIA Updates Web Site on Retail Gas Competition: The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has updated its web site on the status of natural gas industry restructuring in each state as of December 2004, focusing on the residential customer class. As of December 2004, 21 states and the District of Columbia have legislation or programs in place that allow residential consumers and other small-volume gas users to purchase natural gas from someone other than their traditional utility company.

Monthly Flash Estimates of Electric Power Data

This is the first release of the Energy Information Administration¿s (EIA) new product, Monthly Flash Estimates of Electric Power Data, which contains preliminary estimates of selected national monthly electricity data. This product will be released on a regular basis approximately 45 days after the end of the reporting month, and will serve as an early release (approximately 30 days) before the more detailed Electric Power Monthly report. The new release will present national-level data and charts for the reference month, as well as the previous month, year-to-date summation, and rolling 12-month information for electricity generation, fuel consumption, fuel stocks, electricity sales and revenue, and average retail electricity prices. It will also offer a brief summary of the national-level data to put the information into a useful context.

Comments Received on Proposed Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report Revision Policy

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) solicited public comments on a proposed new revision policy for the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) in a Federal Register notice published on January 7, 2005. The comment period closed on February 7. The comments are provided in the attached file.

Historical copies of the EPM tables in Excel format have also been posted on the EIA website, dating back to the May 2003 publication of the EPM. Supplemental Tables to the Annual Energy Outlook 2005

The AEO Supplemental tables were generated for the reference case of the Annual Energy Outlook 2005 (AEO2005) using the National Energy Modeling System, a computer-based model which produces annual projections of energy markets for 2003 to 2025. Most of the tables were not published in the AEO2005, but contain regional and other more detailed projections underlying the AEO2005 projections. The files containing these tables are in spreadsheet formats. A total of one hundred and seventeen tables is presented. (The supplemental tables are currently available in Excel format. The PDF format will be available by the end of February).
