EIA to Restore 10:30 AM Release Time for Weekly Petroleum and Natural Gas Data

Dec 15, 2008
EIA will move the standard release time of the Weekly Petroleum Status Report (WPSR) and the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) back to the original time of 10:30 a.m. (Eastern Time) in early January. The change is effective beginning with the WPSR release on Wednesday, January 7, and with the WNGSR release on Thursday January 8.

The day and time at which the weekly reports are released will continue to vary from the standard practice during certain weeks that include a Federal holiday. The official schedule with dates and times for those releases are available for the WPSR at http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/fwd/wpsrsch.html and for the WNGSR at http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/natural_gas/ngs/schedule.html.

Upcoming changes to the Petroleum Supply Monthly

Dec 11, 2008
Changes to the monthly petroleum supply surveys (Forms EIA-810 through 820) and associated published products are planned for the end of March 2009 with data for January 2009. Affected published products include:

* Petroleum Supply Monthly (PSM)
* Annual Refinery Capacity Report
* Petroleum Navigator

Changes to the above mentioned products include adding renewable fuels, showing fuel ethanol supply and demand, and incorporating ethanol production (formerly published in PSM Appendix D) into petroleum supply and disposition tables.

This announcement highlights the upcoming changes so data users will have sufficient time to plan for the change. Additional details, including previews of new data tables in PDF, HTML (Navigator), CSV and XLS formats, will be provided in January 2009.

Data on Carbon Dioxide Emissions from the Consumption and Flaring of Fossil Fuels for the International Energy Annual 2006

Dec 9, 2008
Excel spreadsheets with time series data for the years 1980-2006, including total carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption and flaring of fossil fuels, per capita emissions, and carbon intensity. Important Notes: (1) The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Therefore, data in the International Energy Annual 2006 may have been substantially revised relative to previous editions. (2) In this edition, the name of East Timor has been changed to Timor-Leste (East Timor).

See What's New in the Monthly Energy Review for a record of changes. In the first 8 months of 2008, U.S. net imports of energy totaled 17.4 quadrillion Btu, down 2.5 quadrillion Btu (13%) from the same period a year ago and down 2.8 quadrillion Btu (14%) from the same period two years ago.

Discontinuation of Publication of Low Sulfur On-Highway Diesel Prices at the U.S. Level

Nov 20, 2008
Beginning Monday, December 8, 2008, the publication of Low Sulfur On-Highway Diesel Prices at the U.S. level will be discontinued. The Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD) price estimates at the U.S. level no longer meet accuracy requirements due to a diminishing number of stations selling LSD as a result of the Environmental Protection Agency's Diesel Fuel Regulations. EIA will continue to collect LSD prices from the retail outlets in our sample that still sell this fuel type. However, the LSD prices will only be included in the average price of all types of diesel. Prices for Average All Types and Ultra-Low Sulfur On-Highway Diesel will continue to be published."

MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the September, 2008 electricity data. The publication is available both in PDF and Excel formats and can be accessed at the following address: http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/flash/flash.html
