Yemen's economy is heavily dependent on hydrocarbons, which account for 25 percent of GDP, over 70 percent of government revenues, and over 90 percent of foreign exchange earnings. Yemen is located on the Bab al Mandab, one of the world's most strategic shipping lanes through which an estimated 3.7 million barrels of oil pass daily, making the country important to the global oil trade.

OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Based on projections from the EIA March 2010 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $767 billion of net oil export revenues in 2010 and $823 billion in 2011. Last year, OPEC earned $573 billion in net oil export revenues, a 41 percent decrease from 2008. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $154 billion, representing 27 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earning reached $1,554 in 2009, a 42 percent decrease from 2008.

Form EIA-923 Final 2008 Data

The Final Monthly Generation and Fuel Consumption, Annual Nonutility Source and Disposition, and the Environmental Operational Data File for Form EIA-923 2008 data are now available. This data file includes generation and fuel consumption by plant and prime mover level for each month in 2008. Also included is the unit level generation, boiler level fuel consumption, NOX control data, FGP data, and FGD data for steam-electric, organic-fueled electric power plants 10 megawatts and above, and by-product disposition, by-product financial data, and cooling system data for steam-electric, organic-fueled electric power plants 100 megawatts and above.
EIA-923 (Schedule 2) - Monthly Utility and Nonutility Fuel Receipts and Fuel Quality Database for 2008 - Final Data

Data for 2008 and beyond contain utility and nonutility plants, collected on Schedule 2 of the Form EIA-923. In addition, 2008 was the first year for annual collection of fuel receipts data from selected plants. These data files include receipts of fossil fuels at generating plants with a nameplate capacity of 50 or more megawatts.

The annual report describes the electricity industry in each State, with printer-friendly statistics from 1998, and 2002 through 2008. Data describe generating capability, electricity generation, fuel use and prices, retail sales, emissions, and net interstate transfers of electricity. Data for all years are also available in Excel file format.

The February issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is available on EIAs Electricity page. This issue provides early highlights of December, 2009 electricity data. In December 2009, retail sales of electricity remained relatively unchanged from December 2008. The average U.S. retail price of electricity decreased 2.0 percent in December 2009 compared to the previous year.

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions. MER data show that in the first 11 months of 2009, U.S. net imports of natural gas were 11 percent below the level during the same period in 2008. Electric Power Monthly November 2009 data

The latest EPM issue (February 2010) is now available on EIA's Electricity page. Data are for November 2009, during which net generation in the United States dropped by 4.3 percent and consumption of coal for power generation was down by 9.3 percent compared to November 2008. The average retail price of electricity for November 2009 was 9.42 cents per kilowatthour (kWh), 2.7 percent lower than November 2009 when the average retail price of electricity was 9.68 cents per kWh. Venezuela is one of the worlds largest exporters of crude oil and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. In 2008, the country was the eighth-largest net oil exporter in the world. The oil sector is of central importance to the Venezuelan economy: it accounts for more than three-quarters of total Venezuelan export revenues, about half of total government revenues, and around one-third of total gross domestic product (GDP). As a founding member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Venezuela is an important player in the global oil market.
